Sign in to disble this ad
My web mistress is working on a web site for my band.
It is a work in progress.
Please give me feedback, especially on the songs.

Thanks,

It's nice but some of the photos seem a bit stretched/squished in an attempt to keep them in that rectangle layout.

You deffo need some colour in there, it's far too grey right now!

The navigation is rather randomly placed too. The media page is really slow too with all those tracks buffering at once. The music is good stuff though!

to be honest, i'm not that crazy about the website.

the rectangle doesn't do it for me. as a web developer, there are a few things that irk me as well. your web designer should have the ability to not open a new browser window AND a mail program when you click on the contact link. also, they should be able to have it so you click on a song and it loads that song, not the way it currently is now, where all 4 are on the same page. the hover links bother me as well - they aren't consistent. imo, the neutral colors give no life to your page. and lastly, on the shows page, which is named "http://www.jimmyleejames.com/index.html" there is a link to enter the jlj website "http://www.jimmyleejames.com/home.html". maybe i'm wrong but it seemed to me i was already on the website.

on a positive note, i live 10 minutes from cherry hill and am thinking about coming out on thursday.

$1.99 pasta!? I'm there dude!

On a serious note... I don't like the media page either. In fact, I don't like media pages that use Windows Media format at all. For alternatives, check out Wimpy MP3 Player, Premium Beat, or CoffeCup Web JukeBox.

My bad. I just saw the little blue dealies tellin' me I need to download something, which I always assume is Windows Media because I don't have it on my machine. I do have Quicktime, however, I guess when I upgraded from FF2 to FF3 I didn't re-up the QT plug-in or something.

In any case, from a design and functional point-of-view, I still much prefer a Flash/stand-alone, integrated media player to something utilizing either Windows Media or Quicktime such as that.

Thanks for the input so far. A few changes have been made. The picture galleries are going to be added soon.
I'd appreciate any and all feedback.
Thanks again,

From a non-web developer and generally computer illiterate stand point; I found the site to be lacking. I much prefer a background that may be a graphic from the "lore" of the band or an inside joke and then a photo gallery that shows me who you are, what you look like, how you look on stage.

Seems like you are grasping for content by including what instruments and equipment you use. Does that mean you are endorsed (yes, I'm guilty of that on my myspace profile)? If I were interested in that kind of thing, which I usually am; wouldn't it be better to let me come to the show to find out? Most audience members aren't interested.

I do like the idea of a flyer page for shows, and including links to the venue's site. Perhaps you could make the photo as the link to the venue site.

Here's my honest, profesional opinion as a web developer. Take it for what it it's worth.

- Some of the images look like they are a little distorted because of resizing.
- The collage of images do not seem to follow any kind of order, flow, or theme.
- The main image/group of images is off center.
- There is too much grey for the border of the font page, and makes the page look uneven.
- The color scheme doesn't work for me.
- The navigation is inconsistent from one page to the other.
- The rollovers of the links make the navigation bar resize.
- The webpage design isn't consistent for different screen and browser window sizes. (centering things would help).
- There is no navigation bar under "shows".
- I will make a guess based on the use of a WISYWIG editor, and looking at the code behind it that it might be hard to maintain and add content as it grows.

This popped out at me too. If you're not endorsed (and if you are, disregard this), why give the manufacturers free rides? As warwick said, it would be better to let any curious gearheads come to the show, figure it out from pictures, or enter into correspondence with you.
