I just got an Kodak s101 webcam to record bass and use skype and what not. But it doesnt well when i play fast, it gets out of sync.

what would be a good webcam to record me playing bass at highish speeds (run to the hills) and with good audio.

mostly for youtube.

or what webcam do u use?

Might be worthwhile going a bit further, get a cheapy recording interface and record sound direct to that, record video with the webcam, and I'm sure there's software you could use to stick the two together!

Webcams are handy for many things, but music is q questionable application. They're not designed to capture quality audio, just to capture sounds. Some of the latest webcams have stereo mikes and they might be a bit better, provided that you play close to them in an otherwise quiet room. if you're playing amplified rather than acoustic (you don't specify) you will have a lot of sound bounce from the room unless you keep the mike close to the cab.

If all you want to record is incidental audio, the webcam will do that...just turn it on, hit record and go for it. No problem with that. If you want quality audio, you would be well advised to get a stereo mike or one of the new portable stereo recorders.

OTOH, if you have the webcam, try it out. Just disregard the camera - get the device close to what you want to record and use it primarily as a mike. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It's maybe even just a question of using a cheap £10-£20 preamp into the audio input of your computer.

I'm sure most video capture softwares will allow you to choose the sound source you use.
