I am planning on playing one song at my wedding (we have friends playing other songs).
We all know it's IMPOSSIBLE to play bass with any kind of nails. So I keep my nails very short normally. However, for the wedding and pictures it makes sense to do something nice with my nails—I'd have to go with fake nails since I could never grow them out.
But how can I play a song with fake nails? Should I just keep my short nails, even though people will be asking to see my hand and also there will be pictures of our rings? Do I put polish on the short nails or leave them natural?
Or just not play bass? I was going to play a song my fiancé and I wrote together and he is going to play guitar, but I could just as easily record the bass and concentrate on just the vocals.

now, not chipping the polish....that's a different story.
how long did you want your nails to be?

But I'm a dude so....

how long did you want your nails to be? | I wanted them to be long enough to look pretty with some polish on them.
I could try growing them out some and see if I can still play. Normally I get frustrated if they are the least bit long and I trim them really short.
Part of me says to be myself at my wedding, and if that includes man nails, so be it!

But my suggestion would be velcro nails. Throw them on for the ceremony, whip 'em off to play.

During the ceremony, wear opera gloves. It will cover your nails, and add a classy look to the gown. Play your song with your nails the way they are. After the song is done, throw the gloves back on.
Then after the ceremony is over and you're doing your photos, have a friend, manicurist, make-up artist, etc throw the press-ons on your hand and polish them up. You're now ready for all the posed pictures for after the ceremony and the reception. |
