Hey, my 80 gig iPod Classic has developed a weird problem where it will not play certain tracks. So far I've only discovered all of the Rage Against the Machine Battle of Los Angeles album. I choose the album, press play, then it just skips over the entire CD and goes back to the menu. Any clue?
It doesn't work to delete the tracks off the iPod and try to put them again, which worked for the last three songs on the Nine Inch Nails live album.
Okay, it happens apparently on all my Rage Against the Machine. |

I'll try a restore when I have more time... if not... I'll try my options, I guess. I need music around (gym/biking/car trips) to stay sane, and nowhere near able to afford a new one. Quote:

Unfortunately my vote also goes for the dying HDD. I've had similar problem on a few 4Gen. models. Too bad the CF conversion is still rather expensive.
But do try to restore Your iPod first, sometimes it does help.
A wise thing IMHO/IME is NOT to load the latest software just as it's released. BAD things can happen, do read the iPod discussion boards first. Might save You a lot of grief, I know that now .
Regards.

If the files are there, you may have a ipod problem, if not, its because when you updated your ipod itunes could not find those files. More than likely there will be a ! next to the files you are missing. Itunes likes to screw up your music folder if "organize my music based on file names" is selected in options...

The ! is only if they can't find the file on the computer, it doesn't affect the files on your iPod as long as they were loaded onto the iPod before moving or deleting the file. I lack HDD space so I usually add songs to my library/iPod then delete them from the computer. They have the ! in the library but the songs still play on the iPod.

I would try a restore, I don't think that it is a HD problem, sounds more like a corrupted file. Or you could delete the song off your computer, off your ipod, then reload it on your computer then onto your ipod.

lowsound | Mine is set to autoupdate. As long as I load the files onto my iPod before deleting them off the computer, they remain in the library and on the iPod and I have had no problems for over 3 years now.
