Weird legal question

We all know copies of original designs are illegal. But what if they're permanently marked "COPY"?

Just something that crossed my mind today while in the think tank (bathroom).

All the manufacturers will eventually mark everything produced boldly with "Do Not Copy". Ya know...... I think that if they aren't doing this proactively, it's like them giving permission to have their stuff copied.......

I'm not aware of any "Permanently Marked COPY" exception in the Copyright Act.

I hear ya. I know Fender and Gibson went as far as to protect their headstock shapes due to copies.

I suspect that identifying something as a copy is a gigantic admission of guilt if the product is protected. Might as well hold your hands out and slap the cuffs on them.
