Weird...my tax refund just came in...

So I filed well before the deadline, and while all my friends got their refunds (if they got them) weeks ago. I've been a bit worried that mine hadn't hit my account.

I just hit my online banking access and my return was there. Except I was expecting a refund of 600 bucks...and 1200 showed up?!?

I don't know...I always have a bit of extra withholding done during the year to cover band taxes for any gigs that report. Thus, I expect to get between 400 and 700 back. This year, I was expecting to get around 600 due to a few 1099misc forms. I checked my taxes a few times, and I pretty much always use the same 1040 form, so its not like it was complex or anything. I've never had anything like this happen. I'm not touching it for a bit until I'm sure it's not a mistake.

Either way, it's making me nervous. And, of course, it's feeding my GAS for an Avalon U5, which I don't really need...but you know...

Hmm . . . exactly double what you were expecting. I would wait a few days to see if it's some sort of posting error. Definitely get to the bottom of it before you go spending it.

Yes, it's not going anywhere right now...I'd hate to have them remove it from my account or to get one of those awful letters later on.

Thanks! It would be odd, because I'm usually pretty right on top of what I owe and what I get back. This isn't like 50 bucks or anything either!

I'm still waiting on my return as well even though everyone else I know has received theirs. I even went so far as to contact the IRS this past week about it and was told they have received it and it was being processed, and that I would have it back by the 26th. Mine should be $1550, hopefully they didn't shave any of mine to send to you!

While I was on the phone the clerk I spoke to said something about a stimulus bonus that I didn't know about. Perhaps that's what you got?

I guess it's possible, but none of my co-workers, bandmates or my girlfriend commented that they got any extra stimulus. I know that this last round of stimulus, what they did was instead of lump-summing it, they're taking less out per week of my check...meaning that I get an extra 8 dollars or so each week. Hrrrrm.

I've had the IRS make corrections in my favor before. Still< best to sit on it for awhile to make sure.

Yeah, it's not going anywhere for a while. I'm luckily, not living hand to mouth.

I went back to my 1040 and reviewed it and don't see any such problem, much less one as big as this would suggest...

Hi,

I work for the IRS and will take care of this problem for you in return for a lump sum payment of $500 directly to my account.

Thanks.

It would be more authentic, if you could day it in poorly spelled, broken english...

If he could "day it?"

Seriously, if there is any question, put it in a separate account, and when they want it back, you keep the interest.

Yup, that's what I would do too. Then I'd take the 2 dollars in interest and buy a lottery ticket.

Hmm, did you recive your $600 economic stimulus check last year?

My brother didnt, and was instructed on his tax form to figure in that amount, since he didnt get his check last spring they gave it to him in his tax return.

I filed really early this year so I could get my $$$ sooner. My mother, father, and brother all filed after I did, yet they recived their checks before me. I called the IRS info line and found out mine had been delayed. The next day I got a letter in the mail saying it was delayed because of a correction the IRS had made. Lst year, at stimulus check time, my wife (ex) and I were shorted about $210 or so. Since I filed married but seperated (split in Sept. of 08) they had added half of what I was shorted from my stimulus check, to my tax return, gaining me an extra $105, as I found out, they also did to my ex.

Yeah, I definitely got my $600 last year. As it stands, I'm off of work on Wednesday and I think I'll give the IRS a call.

I'm sure that they don't usually get an "I've got too much money" call.
