Ok so Im not very close to my grandma, I usually see her about once every 2-4 Years. She lived in Connecticut and I in Louisiana.
She gets a phone call from someone, she said sounds just like me. The guy, pretending to me, says he got into some trouble and needs to get bailed out of Jail. He says I he took a trip to Canada with some friends and they were caught with drugs, and not to tell my dad. The phone is then given to the Sheriff and it all seems very real. The deputy says that I will have to be bailed out of jail and bail is 5,000$, my grandma believed all this and was instructed on how to send the money. He was given specific directions to send 2,500 using a walmart money gram and transfer 2,500 from a stop & go [we don't have these down here] well she actually got out of the bank with the money and got to walmart, where Im no sure howexactly all this went, but she sent the money or went to send it and the girl working behind the counter was a little suspicious and so was my grandma since it said the money was going to a place in london.
Im not sure if my grandma then called me or if they canceled it and then called me, but either way I get a call from my grandma [don't know how she got my number] asking where I was and if I had heard what happened and then asking if I was in canada, she was in shock. I told her no I was in the woods hunting and didn't know what was going on. She said she would call me back. At this moment I thought either
A. My grandma was going nuts, Canada?
B. There was a terrorist attack in Canada and my grandma was being OVERYLY worried. [seriously I never plan on going to canada]
So I go home Call her back and she tells me the whole story. She filed a police report. I have never heard my grandmother cry, but she was. I was completely confused, yet thankful she didn't get scammed 5,000$.
Also as she was leaving walmart the same people called her CELL Phone, [previous convos were on home phone] and she bitched them out.
So tell yalls grandmas not to wire anyone 5,000$
And NO calling my grandma stupid! |

I fail to see what basis one would have to make such an allegation. |

| | | | Sucks we have to put up with crap like this. Glad it all turned out okay, but this story isn't over yet. I would pay to have my numbers changed and unpublished. Not unlisted, unpublished, big difference. |

No, not really.
Glad to hear she didn't send the cash.
People suck. There's a special place in hell for people who would try and scam someones Grandmother. |

I am glad she figured it out in time.

Glad your granny didn't fall for it though.

And scamming the elderly is still the preferred method of scamming. Hell, as an insurance agent, it was my JOB to scam them, till I grew a conscience and quit.

Hell, as an insurance agent, it was my JOB to scam them, till I grew a conscience and quit. | I'd say that most people whose homes I've been in keep their doors unlocked when they're home (some leave them unlocked when they're out, but that depends on the area too). Even at night. Heck, my dad forgot to close the garage door for 3 days when we went on a trip, and when we got back nothing was gone.

You try to rip of innocent grandmothers, you get your head chopped off with a rusty chainsaw, end of story. |

We will just have to vote them out in November. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
