Welcome to Texas, Formula 1!

Elroy, TX, that is. The new home of Formula 1 in 2012:

Today while on the way to our land (which happens to be close to where the new Formula 1 track is going to be outside of Austin) I decided to stop and snap a pic of this sign just to give the world a little idea of the setting for the new Formula 1 track. This is located about a mile or less down the road from the track.

Hey, Euros, this ain't Monaco!!

As long as the track is half decent (please, no Tilke, please!) it doesn't matter too much where it is. Unless it means a stupid TV time for the 80% of the sport's fanbase here in Europe...

Tilke's already involved in the track design...

Regardless, I'll be there for the inaugural race, just like I was for Indy in 2000.

Oh... and to "Number27:" I might have asked you this before, but is your username a Scuderia reference? If so... awesome

Jean Alesi all the way baby

and yes the track design has already been confimed to be a Tilke product, unfortunatly. From what i've heard though there are to be some significant elevation changes.. so maybe with some luck it'll be another Turkey (Tilkes "polished turd").

I think somebody posted a link to the proposed track layout in a previous thread on the subject... but i'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Yes, the layout of the land right there has a natural hill that they are going to incorporate into the track design.

Atoz,

If you can't get tickets then maybe you could pay the junkyard across the street to let you sit and watch it from there.

If anyone is looking for some hot nightlife then you can tear it up at Club Saigittario down the road before you eat some fried coyote tails. It's the local Tejano club. Real classy with fluorescent colors and corrugated aluminum walls. It doubles as Ramirez Appliances and has a taco trailer out front. High life, baby!

Big Alesi fan here, too.

Even with the elevation changes, will it be any good? Turkey is OK, but it's no Spa...

I think the important question is, how do fried coyote tails taste? That, and what do the do with the rest of the coyote??

That would've fit in perfectly with the Bog culture at Watkins Glen. At least with the meager amount I actually remember from my couple of visits there...

They won't have any local fan base. The cars turn right.

Didn't they run F1 on a street course in Addison (Dallas suburb) a few times, years ago?

Yeah, there's been a couple of US Grand Prix (Watkins Glen, Long Island etc.) This is by no means the first.

Here's hoping that superb new Macca will take Lewis or Jense to the title!

I'm thinking that wasn't F1. Probably some other circuit. But yeah, it has been in the US before as recently as 2007. I don't know that they've built a track just for F1 in recent history though.

F1 ran in Dallas once (1984), but not there. Those were TransAm races at Addison.
@Ed: Long Beach, not Long Island. About as far from each other as you can get in the ConUS.

It's always good to see investment in popular sports in the third world.
