Well look what my dogs found in my yard this morning

Sign in to disble this ad
I dont know what to do, for the time being I built a little shelter to keep the dogs out of there, but I dont know if momma is around or not..

It appears as if there is fur bedding around them so im assuming she knows where they are. I dont want to move them in fear of them dying but I also want to make sure there safe where they are.

There is about 6 of them in the little hole.. What should I do, once there big enough to move out of the shelter I built then there is a chance of the dogs getting them or birds etc.

Ring and ask a vet/veterinary nurse, they are usually willing to give quick free advice over the phone.

yeah there rabbits. After doing some reading on wild rabbits the best thing to do is leave them alone, dont touch them, dont move them, dont feed them, etc..

I hope they make it. I can keep the dogs away from the little fort I built but if they start running around the yard its hard to keep a 147lb Italian Mastiff, and a 102lb Bull Mastiff from doing what they do..

I got to let my dogs out to go to the bathroom ya know..

I will keep an eye on them, and track there progress..

One of my dogs, a Miniature Dachshund, found a nest of those little buggers under a Hosta bush in my yard. Unfortunately, she found them when she was back there alone.

I had to clean up the carnage of dead bunnies strewn about my yard with puncture wounds in them. It was, by far, the closest I've ever come to killing my own dog!

well called my vet they told me the same thing, keep the dogs away best you can, if there running around and a dog gets one its nature. She told me birds will probably get a couple anyways.

But do not touch them or move them, if my scent is on them momma will def not come back..

So I will keep this thread updated guess im the uncle to 7 little rabbits LOL

Whatever you do, keep them away from Eric618. He loves small animals.

Oh, and being that you built a fort, and your scent is around them, I'm not sure of momma bunny will come back or not. I'd keep a close eye on them, and if they appear to be slipping, momma might have left for good. If that's the case, you're a daddy, dude!

The fort I built is two deck chairs on there sides forming a little Square around them with enough for momma to get in and others to stay out.

Hope there going to be ok call me a big softy but I just want them to be ok..

Old wives tale, Momma will always comeback even move them if she's able and senses danger. They look well nourished so she's probably around (mama gotta eat too). Don't close off the area so she can move them if she needs to.

But yeah keep an eye on them.

Just like to repeat that, having your scent on them will not make the mother leave them.

He should also watch out for her when checking on them, they tend to get pretty pissed off.

It's a wives tale to keep kids from touching cute little animals. It is best to leave things be... but Mom will not ditch them if they are touched. I know this from many experiences with nursing injured babies that were handed back to parents to finish raising. If I had the room for it, I'd be doing animal rehabilitation again.
