Last night about 10pm, some guy tried to cross a poorly lit highway a couple stop lights from my house. Let's just say, it didn't go too well for him. I was going about 45mph, the road wasn't busy at all, out of nowhere he pops up and before I had time to react I'd already hit him. Cops say it's not my fault, but you know, that still doesn't make me feel much better. Not a fun night, still feel like I'm covered in glass. I have no idea how I'm gonna cope with this one, but I'm staying home with family today. |

How any decent human being(ANYone's definition)would feel after hitting another through no fault of their own is not something I wish on anybody. Sorry to hear about this, need4.

I got really upset when the car in front of me drove over a cat and I had no warning and did the same thing. Made me really angry, since I have a cat. It ran away distortedly.
I don't what I'd do if it was a person. |

Back on task, hopefully you feel better about this soon, I can't imagine what it would be like to hit a person as bad as I felt when I hit a puppy.

Also, try to get some sort of therapy or counseling. They may be able to help you get through this. I'm really sorry for you and the family of the pedestrian. I'm wishing the best for you buddy.

need4, hang in there. i can't imagine how traumatic that must be. you can't control a situation like that, but you can control how you process it and eventually put it away. good luck, brother.

The cops and the witnesses agreed there was nothing I could have done unless I was a professional driver and I expected to have someone jump out. I'll be seeking counseling. I don't know if I'll be comfortable driving at night, especially on FM1960, for quite some time. I mean, I really detested driving on that road to begin with, but it's the major road near my house and I can't avoid it. Not only that, I'm not sure I can drive that car again. I think it just needs a new windshield, but it might be easier for me to let go if I just get rid of it. I love the car, had it for 10+ years, but the thought of driving it now gives me the shakes... |

Its a bummer, yes, but dumbasses abound and if they care for their own lives so little to not pay attention like the guy did, the heck with him.
He hurts himself and then his family and anyone else involved. Total jazzwhole.
I've seen and been involved in too much "deceasement" for other types of reasons to get whipped up about stupidity.
There is nothing for which to blame yourself. One reason, though, such an event is haunting, is that it brings your own mortality right up there to the surface. You empathize at one level or another and feel the touch of death.
YOU are NOT anything bad in this.
Life happens, death happens, injuries happen. They always have to involve SOMEONE. This one involved you. Another page in the book of your life---nothing more.
There is enough bummage in this for everyone. You focus on YOUR life and carry on.
Note: The above does not extend to little children or mentally disabled people. THAT is utmost tragedy.

A friend of mine hit someone that was in the road not paying attention to anything. As long as the Police deems you are not at fault, then you should be OK legally. Watch out for the victim's family filing a civil suit, though.
And you should delete this...
