There was a mechanic working on a Continental plane a couple of years back that wasn't so fortunate. Momentary loss of awareness and he got sucked in.

...when working around big engines that suck lots of air in the front and use fan blades that are spinning at high velocity to compress said air, SITUATIONAL AWARENESS is a requirement.

If I remember right, his hat blew off of his head and he reached for it. Poof. Not a good way to go.

Yup.

Situational awareness.

Hats are easy to replace, you, not so much.

I work with planes every night and we have pictures at work of people who have been sucked in to engines and not survived. Sorry to be so graphic, but it looks like hamburger meat with small shavings of bone in it. About the only thing recognizable as human are the pieces of fingers.

We also get to watch videos of jet blast incidents on a yearly basis to remind us of the thrust capacities of these things....Not unlike the video shown above, we have one that shows a firetruck passing behind a seven four, but about 100 feet behind the tail rather than right up on it. The firetruck did the same thing as the Citreon, catapulted down the runway and then landed in a watershed.

Sucks, blows... It seems that you can only feel good when someone tells you "You don't generate any major pressure change, mate."
