So, not 1 hour ago, my car stalled in an intersection. People in the town where I live don't seem to have any clue about vehicle spacing, not passing of the left of someone who is currently turning left (no, you read that right. Now think about it for a second), not hitting the brakes before you go up a hill, things of this nature. The also don't seem to be able to comprehend that you can't turn through another car.

When cop has someone pulled over, they don't move left or even slow down. When an ambulance comes down the road with lights and sirens, instead of the normal thought of "let me get out of the lane so that maybe someone won't die," they seem to think "f

k that s

t, this is MY lane."

So when I stepped out of my car onto a road with no shoulder or bike lane, with a corner and a quarter of a mile before the first parking lot, my only thought was "one of these podunk morons is going to turn me into ketchup

So I push the car. I start jogging for the sake of not being on the road any longer than I have to. Even after five years, my lungs aren't used to me exerting my muscles in the thin mountain air here, so they start to burn and I have to slow down. I look into the mirror to see which truck with a 12 inch lift it's going to be that crushes me as I push a vehicle toward the Taco Bell parking lot, and instead I see flashing lights. And by some miracle, today those lights seem to actually mean something to the people of this town, and they're going around instead of honking!

So, at this moment I'm just happy to be alive, and can say that for once I was happy to have some interaction with a police officer.

So were you saying in your OP that people in your neighborhood brake before going up a hill, unnecessarily? Cuz the way it's worded, it looks like you're saying that they don't know that you're supposed to brake before going up a hill...

It says "they don't seem to have any clue about not braking before going up a hill."

So, they don't know that you're not supposed to do that.

Right, got cha. Too many "don't"s and "not"s, negatives. Got a little confusing.

something similar happened to me one time - i stalled out at a very busy intersection. thankfully it wasn't far to the nearest lot, but it was a very busy, non-stop intersecting, with 18 wheelers that ignored lights, buses, and a lot of angry folks driving 110% of the speed limit to get to the jobs that they all probably hated.

i tried to get the car out of the way , but i had to cross a very busy intersection to move it to the nearest lot, and after almost being hit by a bus, i just got back in the car. i had no intention of being rendered down to fat when i'm trying to get out of the way for folks. not 2 minutes later a cop showed up and bitched out everyone lol (me too, that was fine though) and then stopped folks and helped me move through the intersection. funny thing is, it only took me about 45 seconds to get the car to the lot - 45 seconds-. that's all folks would have been out if they had just let me move.

i hate atlanta traffic.

Actually in driver's education classes in most states they tell you you're supposed to brake a bit to slow down as you're cresting a hill in case there's something up ahead you don't see that would cause an accident, Stalled car, child or deer in road, etc... While it's not written law, it is good advice.

Man, I'm glad I don't live where you do. South Dakota drivers aren't that bad, really, except for the fact the NOBODY slows down for a yellow light. Ever. Once you figure that out though, it's not too bad.
