I don't agree with many of PETA's stances, but pets being killed is not something to celebrate IMO.

They are a lobby for food businesses that do not want to be regulated by public health and safety agencies. They do not want to be told that mercury is unsafe for pregnant women, for example. Almost every page on their site, and almost every site they are linked with, is dedicated to denouncing consumer protection agencies.
While it is undoubtedly true (and sad) that PETA euthanizes so many animals every year, the full numbers from the published documents tell a slightly different story than the one pumped by the "Consumer Freedom" site.
For example, in 2008: 7,525 animals returned to their owners after spaying or neutering. 93 animals adopted or transferred to other agencies. 155 animals euthanized due to critical medical condition. 2214 animals euthanized for other reasons. So in one year that's 7,773 animals where PETA provided valuable care to the animals, most of whom returned home; and 2214 animals killed that maybe didn't have to die. |

I've read stories how they'd take a dog from the owner who believed they'd find a good home and the poor thing goes into the van but doesn't come out alive.
They need to go away...

Not cool.

This has been stated a while ago, and everyone knows, even vegetarians/vegans/animal rights supporters, that PETA is a bunch of whack jobs. No one takes them seriously. Quote:

Also, hoping PETA will just go away is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Many PETA leaders and members are extremists that do more harm than good, but there's nothing wrong with the idea behind them- ethical treatment of animals. |
