The Knoxx is amazing. Sucks up the recoil via an internal spring, so I can shoot slugs all day without getting sore. Plus, I can shorten it down to shoot it comfortably while wearing body armor. A normal length buttstock has me stretching and contorting all kinds of ways to keep rounds on target, plus I get beat to hell in the process. Not so with the Knoxx. | Very nice! I bet it does shoot like a champ. I've read good things about knoxx, but I've never tried one. I might look into getting one.
I recently bought a mossberg 500 tactical for home defense. I considered getting an 870 (though it wasn't near as mean looking as yours is!) but I was given a great deal on the mossberg. I got a pheonix tactical stock, the standard stock as well as a pistol grip. Why anyone would willingly put a pistol grip on a 12 gauge is beyond me!

By the way, I assume the K31 in your name is a reference to the rifle? I hear those are very nice. Do you have to do any kind of modification to those or other shoulder arms to use your left arm? | I started lefty with long arms because when I was a kid with BB guns, I just couldn't seem to close (wink with) only my left eye. Now I can, but the habit stuck. Plus I am left eye dominant, so it worked out. I didn't shoot pistol until I was an adult, but that just seems natural to pick up a pistol with my right hand.
Yes, the k31 is a reference to the Swiss Army rifles. I have two. It's awkward to rack the bolt and re-align, but it's more awkward for me to shoot righty in competition. I suppose I could practice more righty shooting. I do occasionally practice righty in case a need to do that while hunting from a stand. Most of my rifles are lever or single-shot so they are somewhat ambidextrous.

Pistol grip offers better weapon retention, enhanced recoil management and a much easier tactical reload (holding the weapon on target with a round chambered while reloading with the support hand). |

By "pistol grip" I meant this little joy I received when I purchased the gun:
The punisher... Of wrists.

Had a red dot sight on it. I shot left handed. Took me about 2 shots to get used to it and then it was a breeze. Consistently I had 2 inch groupings at 15 yards of 8 to 10 rounds each. Not great but not bad. It was a lot of fun. We paid $7 for 100 rounds and I got to use about 40

I'm probably gonna go with the Remington 870, it felt pretty comfortable and looked rather intimidating. I've also been looking around online and the H&R snake tamer really interests me, but no shops around here carry it.

They have it on Netflix, if you have that. Fun show - very "TV" but every once in a while they do some really nice stuff. |

I was a Pistol Expert and Rifle Expert in the Marine Corps. I remember when the marksmanship instructor asked if anyone had experience on the range and one guy raised his hand. The MI asked him what distance he was from the target, and the guy said "100 feet." It took a while for the MI to stop laughing. We started at 100 yards, went to 300 yards and then to 500 yards. This was without scopes, just peepsights with estimated windage.
Anyway, I'm glad your family is taking it seriously and getting instruction.
