I'm desperately trying to get out of my horrible dead end job for anything else I can find. I keep finding local chains that say they're hiring, yet every time I apply I never hear anything from them. After a few days I've called or gone in to ask if they're still hiring (always a yes to that) and express my interest. They say they'll give my app right to the person in charge of hiring. Great. Still get nothing, and after a few times of that they tell me they're not hiring anymore.
Job hunting is so frustrating. It's not like I'm applying for some highly skilled trade or something, just stocking shelves or sweeping the floor. Why is it so hard to get a job from retail and grocery stores that so readily advertise their need of help?
Just venting here. Michigan sucks.

all i want is a part time job for the time i am in college. it seems because i have basic communication skills and computer skills i get told i am over qualified.
it is like i am doomed drop out of college and work a full time job in a %^& call center or be a broke college student without a job.
i made it to an interview at a local fast food chain. the interviewer said he just wanted to meet me. told me i was overqualified for the job and that i wouldn't be happy. then he ended the interview.

2. Is there something in your resume that's scaring people off (i.e. you've held 13 jobs in the last 12-months, criminal history, etc)? |

You would have left that interview employed.

Was it because of what I said? I like to think so, but probably more like I was the least bad person to pick from.

-Mike | That's a point I forgot to mention in the first post. Everywhere I try, the person in charge is perpetually not in until next Monday, on vacation, just not here today, or too busy. It's nuts and I think they just don't want to talk to people anymore.
As for a resume I don't have one. I never thought it would be worth anything when going for such a low level job. I couldn't think of anything to put o it. Finished high school with one year of college? That's already on my job app. Quote: |

| I like to think I look decently presentable. Dark collared shirts and the black khakis I wear at my current job look pretty good. Not dirty or full of holes or anything. Sometimes I think I'm not considered because I'm a homely guy and not a hot young girl, which these places seem to hire by the dozen. Quote: |

| I know. It's this thought that keeps me sane since I know what it's like without one. It doesn't change the fact that I'd do any job other than the one I have now.

Seems people have forgotten how to apply for a job and interview. With respct to what you were wearing: I'd assume that would suffice, though lighter colors are probably better. Good luck.

If you don't care about your employment, you're more likely to a nuisance than someone who needs the job because they literally have no other alternative. Further to that, they don't want to waste time training you if you're going to leave in 6 months.
