Western bassists: Dressing up?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to an event that I need to be a little dressed up for. Not fancy, but casual would look out of place. I bought some shirts a few weeks ago that I was considering wearing, but didn't have ties to match any of them. So, today I went shopping for ties. I saw lots and LOTS of ugly ties today. I saw one really nice one, but didn't have a shirt to match, and didn't see any.

So, I've found one alright looking tie throughout the day, and I'm going to go home with it, but then I pass by the Boot Barn. I figure there's nothing to lose if I go in and look for a tie and maybe a shirt.

About five minutes later I'd found a great turquoise shirt and cheap but good looking bolo. I didn't realize until after I left that I'd need to complete this outfit with pants and boots. Now, the boots aren't too big a deal. I've got some work boots that never saw much work, so they should be alright to wear. I also have a nice pair of jeans, but nice as they are they're just a little too casual for this event. I've also got slacks, but they won't go with a cowboy style shirt and boots.

What kind of pants should I get? I know this might seem odd, but I'm from Sacramento and western style isn't common there.

A tie with jeans only looks good, IMO, when it's being worn in a trendy, cutting-edge metro sort of way, which I assume that you're not doing (I was a little confused about whether or not you got a tie/were going to wear a tie).

If you're going to a more formal event wearing a cowboy shirt, I'd suggest black jeans. They would be more formal than blue jeans. Without getting a pair of nut-huggers, I'd stick with tighter jeans, perhaps with a boot cut for your boots.

Where is this event? Nobody wears bolos down here anymore unless it's done "ironically" and that's a different scene.

Jeans and a sport coat usually gets it done around here. Don't forget to starch the ever livin hell out of the jeans and shirt. Use straight Stayflo
