Imagine that 100 years from NOW.

Sheesh. It's mind boggling...

It's pretty suprising. 100 years ago my hometown was a sandy marsh. Now it's LAX.

100 years ago where I'm just now sitting is was a wide area with some aspiring orchards and farms here and there. Now it's in the center of Silicon Valley.

I dont find it all that surprising, myself. Just look at the exponential growth of Industry and Technology.
100 years ago was an entire different reality.

True, it's not really surprising, but it's still pretty incredible to consider!

Looking at 100 years of aviation is a bit more surprising to me, although this is still pretty incredible.

Edinburgh got bigger, still full of buildings older than that (I live in one!).

Speaking of Edinburgh, last week I watched an episode of Rick Steves' Europe where he went to Edinburgh. For anyone who's not aware, Rick Steves' Europe is a half-hour travelogue show on PBS where he goes to various locations around Europe and shows the sights of a particular location. Edinburgh is a fascinating city, maybe one day I'll be lucky (and rich) enough to visit it.

You want Canadian history? I got Canadian history.

Saint John, New Brunswick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oldest Incororated city in Canada.

Unfortunately, the people here are very resistant to progress, so a lot of old buildings are still here, some from before the great fire of 1877. There are no massive office or residential towers here, highest one is well under 20 stories. We also don't have the population base of bigger cities. Industry has all but abandoned the city, except a few old stanbys IE: Irving still has the refinery here. We used to have lots, but now we are becoming a call center center. Ugh.

It's a great city, lots of cool stuff (an a castle on a volcano!).

If you are into your arts then it's worth visiting during the Fringe (biggest arts festival in the world), or Hogmanay for the street party .

Couldn't find the pictures to post, but when we lived in Munich there were some paintings of the city from 1850 or so. The Theresenwiese where Oktoberfest is held was literally a meadow in farmland outside the city. Now it's more of a park surrounded by urban development.

EDIT: here we go... the city in 1858 (Theresienwiese is over on the left side...)

ad recently...

Map Munich (München), Bavaria - Bayern, Germany. Maps and directions at hot-map.
