What do your parents use? That may be a good place to start.

I generally find that local banks tend to be much more friendly and much better overall than chain banks.....

I've had very bad experiences with Bank of America, Citibank, and Wells Fargo

That said recently i switched everything but my checking over to Capital One so far so good

are you working with Major Metal in his plan to get all the TBer's personal info??

Where's Kjung when you need him. Only his A.S.S could protect us at a time like this.

Choose a bank that has many ATM sites. You'll save a chunk of change in fees if you use your own bank's ATM.

I don't know if Commerce gives the best rates, but it's super duper convenient. I'm getting 5% on an 8 month CD and my checking account interest ranges from 0.15% to uhhh 2.5% I think depending on my balance.

I have my money spread between PNC Bank and Commerce Bank. Two checking accounts. One for every-day items, and one for buying myself toys. PNC has pissed me off a few times, but all and all, they've been good to me. Frankly, it's also far more convenient than Commerce. Commerce has done fine by me, but they just don't get the business, and the cute teller isn't there anymore.

I use Bank of America and Citibank credit cards. Citibank's APR is incredibly high, and BOA reported my card stolen for no reason right after they acquired MBNA, who the credit card was through. Wasn't thrilled about that on my credit report, but when my number actually WAS used for bogus purchases, they were on top of that right away.

I asked about this same thing here a year or so ago. Most of the responses were to go with a credit union at that time. So, I gave it a try. I haven't been sorry.
