Because for me, it comes down to the people- and Baltimore has far fewer a**holes than DC.

Live in a small city, about 290,00, but couldn't even imagine living someplace smaller. I work with people who live (if that's what it can be called) in places so small they have to drive 20 or 30 miles to go to a grocery store, then it's so small the quantity and quality of their foodstuffs is mediocre. Makes no sense.

Some of my wife's family live in places like that. They always talk about how they hate it, and how when they come to visit us they just love all the restaraunts and places to eat. When they go to the grocery store to pick something up here they can't believe how nice it is and the selection of meats, seafoods, fresh produce, etc. Yet they won't move even though they could get better jobs and enjoy things more. Makes no sense at all.

Yeah, I don't like 20-30 minute drives to the grocery store either, but I'm doing something about it. We're moving as soon as we can.

It's been good. Gigs pay well. I free lance and earn a minimum of $300 a night. Most of the time it's around $400-500. I have a few at a $1,000 per guy, which makes you feel like you're top of the heap.

With reference the comment about needing to be wealthy to live in an expensive city, keep in mind that salaries are commensurate with cost of living. Geneva is not a cheap place, and my salary takes that into consideration. The quality of life is excellent. No desire to move. No desire to return to Canada to retire. We will most probably retire in France. We've lived in six cities in four countries. We're throwing out the anchor here.

I lived in Washington DC for five years during the Marion Barry years and it was the worst place I have lived.

My current city suits my needs pretty perfectly. Small, manageable, inexpensive, and full of talented and interesting people.

For some reason the list Brussels (No22) my hometown and a horrible place to live! But no a sign of London which IMO should definitely at least be in the top 30.
London is the top city in the UK to live according to the full list. My own city of Birmingham is second. They got it the wrong way around imo.

There just isn't enough money to get me to move to a big city. I do not consider that living. I've got everything I need or want within 10 minutes of where I live and for other stuff there is world wide delivery available. The wife and I could be pretty well off dwelling in a city - we are both educated and trained in good paying fields - but it comes at too great a cost.

I'll stick with my little 19K town.

I'd say Berlin is pretty cool, except the climate is awful. The people are cool, it's fairly cheap compared to other big cities in Europe, there's plenty of things going on, a lot of gigs, a lot of venues, a lot of green areas, the only problem seems to be the grey sky and not enough sunshine.

A warm and dry one. Not the Northeast to me. I hate living in MA and would move if I could, but can't for a few years...

Just spent a week in San Diego - it is nice. All depends on your goals, interests.

Did I mention that I don't like Massachusetts?

I love livin' in the city!
I love livin' in the city!

My house smells just like the zoo,
It's chock full of **** and puke!
Cockroaches on the walls
Crabs crawlin' on my balls!
Ohh, but I'm so clean cut,
I just wanna **** some sluts!

I love livin' in the city!
I love livin' in the city!

Spent my whole life in the city,
Where junk is king and the air smells ******.
People pukin' everywhere.
Piles of blood, scabs and hair.

Bodies wasted in the street,
People dyin' on the streets,
But the suburban scumbags, they don't care,
Just get fat and dye their hair!

I love livin' in the city!
I love livin' in the city!

Of course the list is Euro-centric! They know much better how to live over there.

The saying is that the Europeans work to live, and the Americans live to work.

I saw a movie that took place in Italy. When offered more wine, the woman said "I think I have had enough". The Italian said "In Italy - Enough is barely living".

I guess it is nice living in Australia, but I have to add that it is expensive

I am surprised to see Ottawa at 14 on the list. It is an awesome city, I just didn't expect to see it higher than Toronto.

I would take Ottawa off the list. Been living in Ottawa for a year now. Not really feeling it at all. My quality of life has gone down significantly since i moved here.

It's definitely not in the US. I would guess somewhere in a Nort country or maybe a Pan Asia.

I cannot live anywhere it is predominantly overcast or brutally cold. Been there, done that. I also have grown tired of the competition that's inherent in big cities.

It's interesting that most the list falls into these categories and is mostly European.
