Gator or Shark are the choices. I'm talking about a hungry and mean gator as well as a vicious Bullshark. Both are nasty, and are known to kill humans.
I'm making a poll. Carrots will not be an option.

Although they are fast, an alligator isn't very maneuverable. On the other hand, I'm more likely to encounter a shark under water...where I can't possibly compete on the animal's home turf.
So my answer was really about the environments more than the animals in question.

People swim with sharks - though I don't typically make a habit of it, and don't get eaten. In fact, it's pretty rare a SCUBA diver ever becomes the meal. With alligators, they've been known to snatch up any living creature when you're in the vicinity.
While alligators aren't very good at running in a straight line, they still move a heck of a lot faster than I do. Bull sharks obviously don't run, but if I'm going to be in a place where they are, chances are less that I'd be attacked.
I've played golf in the southeastern US and encountered alligators basking in the sun just a few feet from the hole and didn't fetch my balls when I hit near them. I can't really see having the same concerns about bull sharks.
The scary thing about bull sharks is how they're adept at living in brackish waters and have been found so far up the Mississippi some sightings have been reported in Illinois! Alligators don't typically come up this far north, however.

If I'm in the ocean with an angry bullshark I have no hope whatsoever. If I'm on land with an alligator (Which is most likely since I wouldn't swim anywhere where they hang out) then I'd have some chance of running away or escaping with some sort of injury, rather than the certain death that could be expected from encountering an angry bullshark.
This judgement is based on the assumption that both animals would be pi$$ed off about something and are both guaranteed to try and attack me. In reality I would be more likely to be attacked by an alligator (Well, crocodile, since I'm in Australia) |

I'm terrified of carrot sharks, personally, their native environment being the vegetable drawer of the fridge, which I don't open much as a result.

If I lived somewhere near water, then I'd say gator. If I'm not mistaken, sharks won't attack unless there's blood.

Since I am down here in the desert I fear packrats much more than other animals. The destructive power of those little beasts and their ability to spread filth and disease is simply amazing. They can destroy homes and vehicles like I never would have believed. They get into everything.

Two different ecosystems. They're both hungry and aggressive. I'm yummy.
The end results would be the same. I respect and fear them both equally. It just depends where I'm swimming at the time.

If I was forced to choose one to take my chances against, it would be the gator, as I've already been there/done that and still have all my appendages. Sharks have humans at a significant disadvantage if you're in any danger from one (it isn't like one will do this: http://www.spike.com/video/land-shark/2802070 ) Quote:
