What did everyone get for Hanukkah?

I got a new leather jacket that I needed badly. My family doesn't really exchange Hanukkah gifts like we use to when I was a kid. Now it's more about the LATKES. Yummmmmm.

My made around 150 latkes this year. I ate about 20 right off the pan. Too bad most of them went to business.

On topic: I got some money, and Jenga from my cousins, and some $10 slippers, but I'm happy. My mom says I can get something within reason and she'll pay for it when I find it.

no gifts this year! yep, i am a real scrooge, huh? (can i use that metaphor?)

because me and the kids celebrate both chanukah and xmas, and my sons b-day falls in the middle of it all, i felt that buying more gifts seemed overwhelming. so i started a tradition of making my kids' gifts every year. usually there is a theme: one year it was origami creatures and on the last nite i gave them a book and a pack of paper. one year i wrote out simple recipes they could make and turned them into a book on the last nite.

i am starting to run out of ideas and things i can create. but i had a great idea this year to make them each a graphic novel starring themselves. unfortunately, that is a big task and the holiday came so early i couldn't even get started. so i sat them down and told them i couldn't get it together. instead we played games each nite, had a fire, that sort of thing.

total hijack:
have you ever seen the book, "hershel and the hanukkah goblins"? its by eric kimmel. it rocks. great read!

Mmm, Latkes. I just made them for supper. They were a winner. Easy to make, tasty, and cheap. Just like my mom makes 'em.

The wifey bought me some nice Under Armour workout clothes, and she got a Nook book reader, which covered her early December birthday too. We do Xmas with my extended family, but don't exchange anything then.

She normally has a latke making party with our kids and some others in the neighborhood, but that didn't happen this year.
