What to do in Ft. Lauderdale

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale from 3/28 to 4/1 visiting my brother-in-law with my family.

I just thought I would get some suggestions for what to do while there.
Music venues? (I know Jaco's boys used to play around there, do they still?)
Places to eat?
Guitar shops?

Just thought I would get some ideas. I'll be hitting the beach, of course. My brother-in-law actually lives in Boynton Beach.

I've always wanted to go there and check out Jaco's grave.

+1.
That's the first thing that came to mind when I read the title.

Also, isn't there a Jaco Pastorius park? I can't remember off hand what city that's in.

What to do in Ft. Lauderdale?

...from my times there (which were many): Leave as soon as possible.

...never liked it in southeast FL.

However, if you can find the party that RWP suggested, then that would be an acceptable alternative!

Music shops:
Typical chain stores such as Guitar Center in Hallandale and Sam Ash in Coconut Creek. The unique shop in the area is MAE - Music Arts Enterprises - http://maemusic.com/ located here.

Also, there is a small shop called God of Thunder Music owned by a former teacher of mine located here. His name is Damien and he's really an expert in all stringed instruments. Not a crazy good selection there, but if you're looking for some good service and advice, I'd go there.

Restaurants:
If you're into seafood, I'd recommend SeaWatch. There's plenty of good restaurants in the area. You could probably just go down Las Olas Boulevard until you find a restaurant that tickles your fancy and it would be good.

I'm not much of a party person so my knowledge of the nightlife and clubs around the area is limited. They're not hard to find though and it would probably be pretty easy to ask around a bit to find some stuff.

Other Things:

If you're into gambling, there's the Seminole Hard Rock Casino - Somewhat infamous as the death place of Anna Nicole Smith.

If you want to get out into the Everglades, airboat rides are pretty awesome.

Definitely hit up the beach. Fort Lauderdale beach is a good time with lots of hot ladies. Hollywood beach is a little bit more laid back, has a nice boardwalk with some good restaurants.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!

There's a fair bit to do. Best thing to do in Florida? Leave for Europe...

So let me get this straight. You're going to what is pretty much Spring Break capital of the world, during spring break, and you don't know what to do?

Don't be sad. I would much rather spend time with my wife and kids than party and drink. It's not even a close call. If you aren't married with kids, you will understand one day. If you are married with kids, I should be the one who is sad.

well since you have the wife and kids, DISNEY ? a few hours north of here but what the hay. I don't have any small kids but there is not much geared for them that I see.

I just got back from Ft. Lauderdale today!

There are plenty of places to eat in Lauderdale By The Sea, and every Friday night they have a live show in the street. Last night there was a jazz/funk cover band.
