The old tube TVs have some materials that need to be recovered instead of going straight into the landfill. And while burning it or blowing it up would be a hoot - along with smashing - it may release some toxic fumes.
Some cities that don't have year-around electronics drop off locations may do once a year type of collections.

Dropping it in a dumpster is just dumping a problem on somebody else.

Any kind of destruction like this will yield broken glass and heavy metals, and you do not want to be near a CRT when the vacuum tube is broken.
Recycle it...even if it costs a couple of bucks.
