No one stands on a runway with light sticks anymore, do you mean the guy at the terminal who parks the planes? I think his name is Bob.

I'm picturing the guys on aircraft carriers wearing the color-coded vests and helmets that give the pilots signals and direct them and such. I just can't remember the name for the life of me.. air chiefs, crew chiefs, something vaguely like that..argh

waiting for a response from my buddy that works at Boeing...

i text'd him, "what do they call the person with the light sticks guiding aircraft into terminals at the air port?"

knowing him, he's going to reply with a simple, "your mom at a night club"

LOL hahahaha

Marshallers.

Depending on the airport, there could be a light guidance system that will take you right up to the bridge and tell you when to stop. It's calibrated to accomodate a variety of aircraft.

Heathrow, and I'm sure other airports have this as well, has in tarmac lighting that the ground controller can switch on, guiding you from the taxiway, across the ramp right up to the gate. It helps pilots unfamiliar with the airport.

God, I sound like a total geek. I'm outta here.

Yes, you do, but it's geeks like you that have the answers for the things the rest of us idiots want to know. Thank you for your service!

I don't know, but I've always wondered about the sound canceling ability of those headphones.
