Okay - so. I'm here. And since this is the work week, I've stayed pretty close to the hotel/office so far. I'm terribly disappointed in all of the people who told me the food is terrible. They have no sense of adventure. LOL. Or, perhaps I'm more adventurous than most. Either way, the food's been good at the places I've eaten so far. Found a couple of decent pubs near my office, and my co-workers here have got some things on the agenda for the next night or two to occupy me. One of them even has some musical connections, so we're hitting Soho (I'll be careful, Bill) with a group of her friends one night.

Discovered yesterday that Sunday is the Chinese New Year, so it's looking like Sunday I'll be going to Chinatown for the parade and celebration. Saturday will be London in all its glory. I wish I had another weekend here, though, so I could venture across Mordor to see the lands of the North.

Chinese New Year in Chinatown is awesome. Soho is ok, but its no Amsterdam

If you are only doing a day in London, then the Natural History Museum and the Tower of London would be my personal recommendations. A trip up and down the Thames can kill an hour too.

The Natural History Museum, The V & A and the Tate are all great choices.

Chinese new year in London sounds pretty good, if you can at all this week get down to Brighton (no bias, honest) couple of sensational guitar stores here above all else (GAK, Badlands spring to mind immediately)

No place is Amsterdam, except Amsterdam.

Is there a train that goes there? I was going to try to go to Warwick, but I'm pretty limited to where public transport goes since I didn't rent a car. I can barely walk on the correct side of the walkways, so it's probably good I didn't rent a car. They'd have me deported for my driving.

Sure, they go direct from London Bridge and Victoria, not sure if there's a direct one from Weybridge though

Hey, stop knocking my patch - remember where industry and manufacturing got invented. I am proud and privileged to have MADE IN BIRMINGHAM metaphorically stamped on my anatomy.

You definitely have to go to The Tower. An amazing amount of history is there. Brighton is awesome too.

Don't worry, you'd be no worse than the majority of people on our roads, I'm sure. Most drivers are generally stupid, incompetent or selfish, wherever in the world you go. 'Tis human nature.

So far, I'm loving it here. Figured out the train and the tube, and spent the day exploring until I got too cold, too wet, and too objectionable to endure standing in any more lines. Now I'm lying on the hotel bed trying to figure out what to do for dinner tonight. I'm thinking The Queens Head, perhaps.

PUB!

Anybody know this movie?

Glad to hear you're enjoying your stay.

No clue on the movie. I've done pubs nearly every night so far except the night we went to Heddon Street for Moroccan. It's been wonderful...cottage pie, steak and ale pie, a pint or three, darts, karaoke, and cosmopolitans in a pitcher with a straw. Who could ask for more?

If it wasn't so blazin' cold, I could live here.

I would love to live in England, and if I can ever afford it, will.

"Hot Fuzz". Watch it the first chance you get, it's absolutely hilarious. And, you'll get to understand my "PUB!" comment.

Strange, because I love some parts of the USA and would maybe like to live there (although certain aspects of American life would probably drive me nuts).

Of course we'd drive you nuts. It seems to be a popular pastime in America - like, baseball or whining.

Well, you know how "different" things are always attractive. Of course, if you moved to the south and out of those awful midlands, you may think your own Country was wonderful.
