What do you believe produces rigid people ? From what I have been able to gather I believe it has alot to do with an aggresive need for someone to control the reality around them at the same time having an absoultley defined truth in which to live. I would have to say the most rigid people I have met were produced my the institution I formerly " Served" in.

Mostly inflexible beliefs. However, maybe you can confirm this, but I suspect being a mod of TB OT for too long could probably do it to ya too!

Extremes. I believe living in an environment of extremes breeds only more extremes. They may identicle or opposite, but they will always be extreme.

Brain structure. Wasn't there a study about the differences in brain function between liberals and conservatives? This is not to politicize, but just to suggest that brain function and behavioral traits are linked. It would also explain the "rigid parents" effect.

Much rigidity is created by fear of the unknown. I think the more confident people are, the more willing they are to be flexible in their approach to things.

However, people can also be taught to see the world in black and white, right or wrong, etc. That's a learned approach.

You start to realize Jung had it VERY close to being right with his personality assessments.

I think you will find many of these people around the INTJ/ISTJ realm. I think closer to ISTJ.

I think it could be any number of things... upbringing, experience, environment. I know it's a combination of those things in my case. I believe in EVERYONE giving all they have, no matter what the situation. No one slacks, everyone pitches in, and the results are always more satisfying that way, for me. It's an exacting tendency to constantly strive to get things right the first time around. Unfortunately, I find myself pushing that on others, which is a rather negative quality I'm trying to supress. I'm way too hard on people for their own good.

Wow... thanks for that momentary lapse into introspection, MM.

Rigor mortis.

Damn it, someone beat me to it. Either way, I'm an INTJ and I guess I can vouch for seeing things according to a very strict set of rules.

How do you explain an individual's transition from Liberal to Conservative and vice versa?

Fear of the unknown definately, but I also believe it can be caused by severe emotional trauma, you know, good old pain and suffering.
