I'll keep this short. I'm 38 and we just had our first baby. So I quit smoking and started eating more healthy foods. And I started working out. Having a baby changed my way of thinking about my own health.
So for me......
I do 45 minutes of cardio (usually the eliptical machine) at the beginning of each work out. Then I rotate between doing legs one night, back and bi's the next, chest and tri's the next. And when the weather is good, I try to sneak in a bike ride if possible. What do you guys think? Is this a good start? What do you do?
Thanks for reading and any advice would be great!

Lately I've been on a fiber kick, so I'm big on FiberOne. I mix the bran kind with the honey nut crunch to make it more tolerable. One of the things not many people notice is that while the bran is 57% vs. 43% for honey nut crunch, the bran is half the serving size. So in effect, it actually has >2x the fiber. Not many people get the full daily recommended amount.
The only other thing you might want to do is get some blood work done to see where you're at in terms of cholesterol and triglycerides. Then, medications if necessary, or modify diet/lifestyle. Fiber, good overall diet, and your exercise will go a long way towards keeping you healthy, but some people just naturally have high cholesterol.

Seriously, nothing is better than waking up at 5am for 100 miles or so by yourself.

DID YOU SAY 100 MILES??????

as for the workout topic...that sounds great. Look into a pull up bar; that is among the healthier exercises. I like that you started with eating healthier, that's the most essential part. I mean, if you eat healthy, a decent amount of walking is usually enough exercise to maintain body weight. |

Your bike should be fine for a while but im sure you'd love an actual road bike. before you know it youll be shaving your legs and buying cute little lycra shorts lol. it really is addicting and its great because I can do cardio workouts over 7 hours with zero impact to my joints. roadbikes are just plain fun... you can go anywhere you want instead of having to follow trails and being able to pace at or over 20mph is an awesome feeling. I picked up a Scott S10 two years old but still new for about $1200. its normally a $2000 bikes. since then I put about $1500 into it. awesome time to buy a bike because so many brands are all making quality products and the used market is very good right now. if you want a road bike id highly suggest having a good shop do a fit test for your. its surprising how much difference 2cm can make in a frame size.

I don't do well when I'm sedentary.

I probably should be getting my heart rate up more often though.....

Or stop drinking. Beer is the WORST for losing weight.
