Work, work out, sleep (I'm on a 1:00 AM-4:30 AM schedule right now... Its not fun), eat. Watch baseball in the summer, hockey/football/basketball in the winter.

One can always get on youtube to find tips or a walkthrough on how to setup a bass. However, I know not all basses are set up the EXACT same way...I have 3 basses and each of them requires different tools. But its great to find out what you need and HAVE it so you can work on your OWN gear. As a fulltime musician, I can't be without my work tools. I'd be losing Money!!

Wouldn't hurt to learn keybass either. I play that every so often, and have had to do complete gigs on that when I had a bass crisis. Just my humble opinion.

upright bass, mandolin, harmonica.

I'm actually a pretty good guitar player but just on principle I stay away from them.

When faced with the prospect of not having a bass for a WEEK, I went out and got a beater bass for $70 on Craigslist. Every vacation without my bass includes a trip to a music store if I can find one, at which point I will sit down and play for as long as I can get away with before being asked to buy something or leave.

I was touched to find that the last time I went up to Massachusetts to visit my parents, my dad had picked me up a cheap acoustic guitar so I can play around when I'm up there and not have to carry my bass on the bus. My dad is awesome and this is why!

Thanks!

I found it used at GC this past Summer. It is a custom ordered instrument that has most features of a 000-18GE with some really cool things added to it. Obviously, the double venetian cutaways, plus a Stauffer Pyramid bridge, low profile neck, Waverly vintage oval tuning keys, long diamond volute, Adirondack spruce top and 1/4" scalloped braces, Brasilian rosewood headplate, three small dot inlays only at the 5th, 7th and 9th frets, and a Fishman Ellipse Matrix Blend dual source pickup system. Since you also play guitar I hope you appreciate the details.

Wow...RxFunk, you need a more responsive shop. I popped into World of Strings (Long Beach CA) the other night after closing time with an AVRI P that had a persistent buzz. A bit beyond my skill level at the moment, or so I thought. In 10 minutes I was out the door with a perfect setup for very little coin! And Greg showed me how to fix a similar problem in the future. Awesome dudes.

And buy more basses!

I never did understand how someone can drop a bass off and expect it to feel/sound how they want it? And it's so easy to do yourself, you gotta learn how to do it!

I agree with learning how to setup your own bass and get a second, back up bass.

Aside from that, break out some music theory books and learn some more

When I can't get my bass fix for whatever reason, I play my classical guitar. Like a bass.

Yah, thats a wonky bridge design. You might consider getting an after-market bridge suitable for your bass. It looks like you have to adjust the bridge saddles with those tiny hex screws on the right-hand side of each saddle. turning the screw clockwise should raise the saddle, but only the right side !!! Anti-clockwise will lower it.

Normally, you would find two of these screws on each saddle, but ,,,aw hell,,, i really dont know why they designed it like that.

Hopefully your tech can make some sense of the thing.

Beware of the TB setup nazis...
I once tried for three pages in the "hardware setup and repair"
Sub forum to convince the forum hard liners that I am completely mechanically incompetent and cannot perform a decent setup.
They fought with me so vehemently that I hate quit my own thread

The pelvic thrusts in the food court made me LMAO for 5 minutes!

Not really being setup nazis... trying to offer good, well-meaning advice from people who have "been there."

What if I told someone that my car was going to be in the shop for three weeks because I had a flat tire? Ya think there would be one or two people who respond with "Learn to change a tire, dummy?"
