What do you think about Disney?

Sign in to disble this ad
This (see link below) is exactly what I've been thinking about the Disney empire for quite a few years. Finally somebody said it. Never mind the genius of Carl Barks, this is what it boils down to. I may not be very smart, but even I can see the Disney operation is buying up and copyrighting the folktales of the world, sort of co-opting the traditional wisdoms, and putting a capitalist twist on them. "Magic", as Mikaeel Jackson grew up to learn.

Disclaimer: I'm not a religious guy and wouldn't want this thread interpreted in that fashion, but it may be borderline political and religious. If so, mods, please delete.

I consider Disney (and Microsoft) to be successful competitors in a capitalistic environment. I'm neither particularly turned on or off by either. I did grow up (born in 1950) watching Disneyland on TV, so Disney storytelling was part of my formative years.

Disney is an evil, evil, corporation. Americans have known it for years (well, alot of them), glad to hear youre finally in the know.

But try and not speak to boldly about it, Goofy is a highly trained assasin, and if you say Mickey's name 3 times into a mirror he'll show up and you'll understand why Pluto can't speak anymore.

They are geniuses. As far as marketing products children will be interested in...pure genius. Just look at Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.

Check this out You'll find out how!

Disney's movies while watered down and Hollywood-iffied never really have bad or over capitalist themes IMO.

However they are a pretty darn evil corporation...."The Disney Vault" is the most screwed up/evil marketing concept ever.
They are in your kids minds and yes every family must make the pilgrimage and to buy $25 dollar mouse ears and a $15 dollar cheese burger while standing in line for 2 hours to ride splash mountain.

That being said you don't want to get me started on the church, everyone (the church and Disney for that matter) has an agenda and they are no better or worse IMHO and that is all I'm gonna say about that.

Ps. Mickey Mouse creeps me out, always has, always will...its gotta be the laugh.

Good point, and the more cause for my frustration as an atheist.

Disney and Hanna-Barbera are to art/animation what Velveeta® is to cheese.

I dunno about all that... I've been an employee of Disneyland twice since leaving the military. The first time was a parttime job.. the second time I went fulltime for about 3 1/2 years. They took pretty good care of me, and at that time the medical benefits were outstanding... So personally speaking, they certainly aren't all bad by a long shot. Not to mention I got to meet and talk to a bunch of celebs visiting the park and Disneyland Hotel during my short tenure there.

And what about that is not evil? They suckered you into thinking they were great, when, in fact, they were not. Of course they took care of you, you worked FOR them. How well are they taking care of you now is the question?

? He worked there for 3.5 years. An employer has no obligation for that kind of tenure. Do you expect him to have a pension?

What Goofy is capable of with those teeth....unspeakable. He crushed Donald's windpipe during a "friendly" poker game. Now no one can understand him.

Well if theyre such a wonderful corporation why wouldnt they?

If you couldnt tell from my previous posts, I'm joking. I just hate Disney for robbing me of my childhood. How was I supposed to know that Winnie was not actually made from Poo. I spent a lot of time in some sort of facility for that...

Okay, I get the message... Not going to be a serious thread, as I'd hoped. Mods, delete.

Why would you want the mods to delete all of this insightful information, Capt. Buzzkill?

Because, as you know, it's just fooling around and as such worthless, Capt. Obvious.

I love Disney, and don't care what you think about me for it. I take the family every September, have for the last 4 years, and plan to do the same this year.

What do you mean, copyrighting them? I don't think this is true. If I want to make my own Cinderella film based on the folk tale, I can do it. Do you have any evidence there?

You have to be kidding me. Lumping Disney in with the crapfest that is Hanna-Barbera animation is ridiculous, and I don't see how anybody could fail to rank, say, Snow White at or near the pinnacle of hand-drawn animation as an art form.
