What exactly is Anthropology?

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't get it. It's the study of cultures. I can do a bachelor of arts in Anthropology, I can do a bachelor of science in anthropology? The requirements for Anthropology in Arts are Gr. 12 English, 5 Additional Gr. 12 credits (Ontario). Anthropology in Sciences are Gr. 12 English a bunch of science and math. What the *U#()!@ is Anthropology?

Anthropology. The study of humans.

There is physical anthropology and cultural anthropology. Cultural anthropology is the study of human cultures.

Basically you can remain in academia if you want a career that has something to do with your major. Maybe do field work, ethnography if you're a cultural anthropologist, or archaeology if you're a physical anthropologist.

That about sums it up.

I have a BA in Sociology, which is equally as useless. Currently going back to school, double majoring in psychology and anthropology. Should be good times. Two of three degrees I will eventually have shall amount to no more than being really expensive toilet paper

One of my buddies has a degree in physical anthropology, and he has gotten to travel the world doing archaeology and attending conferences and presenting papers. Which is kind of cool. Although it pales in comparison to my friend Tim, who recently got his PhD in physics. His research team was invited to work with the Hadron Collider.

Back when I was in College, I took a class in Cultural Anthropology.

I'm sure it was to fulfill some requirement. In my opinion, a complete waste of time and money when you are going for a engineering degree.

its when you have to have your anthro removed because it is inflamed and could rupture, sending you into septic shock and likely death. If you need it, get it.

I double majored, Electronics Engineering and history, with my history degree (BA) I can either write, advance the degree and teach, totally rule the history category on Trivial Pursuit, or work fast food!

If you don't know what anthropology is, you shouldn't think about majoring in it.

Then again, if you specialize in modern anthropology, especially related to media, you could write a paper about a bassist internet forum.

Anthropology is a study in pretentiousness with the promise of a fast paced career in the food service industry.

Isn't this true for pretty much any university programs (excluding Engineering and Sciences)?
