What was this game?

When I was in first grade (1995-1996) there was this computer game that everyone wanted to play. I don't remember the name, but it was a mario copy, a sidescroller, with a character that was either a guy or girl.

The premise was to collect books and avoid these blob-ulous enemies (we nicknamed them "Googa-Guys") You had to jump over things of slime, and if you hit the spacebar, a green caterpilar/worm thing with glasses and an umbrella came down and dumped pink crap on the blob guys, killing/destroying them.

The only term I heard for the game was Word Save or something. May not have been the real title. I think it was a PC game, but it could have been a Mac, for all I know. We had both at the school then.

Just out idle curiosity, how did you draw that conclusion? (and no, I didn't)

While we're at it, I've recently remembered an old game that I think was famous at the time. I remember some very thin snakes shaped like an S. They were moving sideways, I think. I'm pretty certain I've played it on Commodore 64.

no answer here, and not to derail... but... looking back at old nintendo games, and especially sega games, does anyone else think they were made by people on way too many psychedelics or other drugs? they seemed normal as a kid, but thinking about plots and graphics and stuff, some of those games were like a 16 bit bad trip.

okay, thats all. i hope you find your googa-guys or whatever.

Could that have been Dungeons and Dragons from the Intellivision game system?

The only one I remember is Mario Typing, but that actually had Mario and the Princess in it. Good times...

Nah, I don't think so. I didn't even know that system existed, and I think the graphics was a bit better.

I think what you're looking for is Word Rescue. I played it too, and as stated above, there was a number version too.
