What Gives? TB Unblocked @ Work!

Sign in to disble this ad
For the longest time I was able to access Talkbass during coffee breaks and lunch-time from my office even though many other non work-related sites were blocked because of our computer use policy. Last December the site started to be blocked and now as of last week I can access TB again from work.

I'm not complaining, I just wonder how this blocking software works. Did something change @ TB to make it more friendly to corporate firewalls etc.?

Firewall could have gone down temporarily, exceptions may have been updated or altered that inadvertently freed up TB, or maybe there's a TBer in your IT department who finally got tired of having to bypass the firewall every time he wanted to browse the forums.

In an office right now looking busy even though my dad knows 100% what I'm doing. Being the boss's son rules.

No filter, although I pretty much only surf TB while at work. I don't go near myspace/facebook/4chan.

As far as why TB is available at your work again, the porn forum is gone now.

No doubt, but I do regret posting some of those pics. Especially the one with the pumpkin. That was a bad idea taken way too far!

Hey, the TB porn forum was a place just asking for that kind of lewdity.

Very true, but some of the comments were very hurtful.

This could be it. We can access Ebay from work. Go figure, one of the executives must be a regular buyer or seller.

I think I should note that I can get on TalkBass while at school. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been blocked yet because no one goes on it.

But on a serious note...

...we had a pr0n forum?

Many companies use a third party "Iron Port" or "Web Washer" type of application for emails and internet usage. These companies are constantly measuring websites and email domains for threat levels and adjust accordingly.

Maybe the "threat" level of TalkBass was reduced in their database or they upped the level of allowed sites.

That's my bet.

(The real question is how many times you got the "This website is blocked by policy" message to realize you can finally go to Talkbass? Was it an obsession?)

Use firefox. I put mine on a zip drive and took it into work and then manually uploaded it onto the PC. Now I can surf away...
