Easily my favorite mobile app. It's basically a podcast streaming app, but the result is greater than the sum of it's parts. You can search by topic, or simply add your favorites manually and they will automatically update. So, you make a list of your favorites, and when a new episode hits the web it takes note and when you hit play it starts at the top of your lists and begins playing through any "new" episodes of your favorites that you haven't heard yet. So basically, it turns podcasting into what amounts to personalized talk radio. I think I've logged something like 400 hours on it. Can't recommend it enough if you have any interest in talk radio style programming or podcasting.
If you use RSS feeds, I'd also highly recommend Feedly. It's by far the best RSS reader I've used, and I'm pretty sure I've tried dang near every one of them. Of course, I'd also recommend anyone who doesn't use RSS feeds to look into them, and the FF or Chrome version of Feedly as well (fully integrates with the iphone/android app btw).
The Ebay app is really well designed and I actually prefer it to the full web version. The Amazon app is quite good as well.
Yellow Pages is invaluable.
If you're into indie/folk/singer-songwriter type stuff, make sure to get Daytrotter. It's the iphone/android app that goes along with daytrotter.com, which is basically an awesome internet radio show where really cool bands go into their studio and do stripped down versions of their songs. it's got TONS of awesome live sets from a pretty diverse set of groups. Everything from Avett Brothers to Aesop Rock.
That's all I can think of for now since I no longer use an iphone (switched to android).

Streaming stuff and having stuff use your location eats the most battery life, but also uses the most data. I don't do either.

The iPhone has a battery life among the best you can buy today. With some calling and some surfing, I can go a bit past three days. Of course that's not a safe bet, but I doubt going under one day is regular use (or if it is, I doubt the phone is new).

If you want to know what programs drain the battery, they're probably the ones using your wi-fi the most. Wireless transmission and the screen backlight are the two biggest power drains.

It's connected to wi-fi all day at work, at home, and at my "regular hangouts" that offer free wi-fi. Bluetooth is connected whenever I'm in the car. GPS is available "at will" for apps that use it. I frequently check email on the phone (3 different accounts), browse news sites, etc. The phone is on 24/7. I have to admit I don't make or receive a lot of phone calls, but 15 minutes a day of phone calls doesn't seem to put much of a dent in the battery at all. My battery *easily* goes for 2 full days (48 hours) on a single charge. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
