I've had my black lab for about 3 months, and just this week alone ive found 3 ticks on him.
What do you use to prevent ticks on your dogs? I probably need something strong, i take him to play in the woods and lakes atleast an hour a day.
Also, what about for shedding? Isnt there something you can give dogs to make there coats and skin nice and prevents most shedding? haha, and what about heart worm medication?
He is very active and in the out doors alot, is there any hting else I should consider? |

It depends on the dog though, and it's not a cure-all. Some older vets and books will say to feed dogs garlic to avoid pests, but actually some smaller/older dogs can be poisoned by garlic. A young black lab should be OK though.
Frontline is one of the better "real science" flea/tick poisons/preventatives out there, it works really well. You can get it at most vets, or online.
Get a comb/brush called the "Furminator". Works great on heavy-shedding dogs. |

Nothing is going to be perfect, but thats pretty good numbers for me. I have heard the changing the diet thing but my jury is still out on whether there is anything to it or its some screwy wholistic quackery. Fr

I'll probably get some soon though as we have both woods and deer all around us. The ticks will be out in abundance soon as always..

Interceptor for worms (poor guy had a recurring hookworm infection)
Almost never find a live tick on him since we started Vectra. Used to use Frontline, but had to use a separate tick collar with it.
