i was surfing the web for advice on filling in the holes caused by my old pick guard and drilling new ones when i came accross talkbass. the title of the thread was something along the lines of "how do i change a pickguard"

the first reply was a picture of a screwdriver.. i busted up laughing and then joined talkbass

Like most things, I woke up feeling groggy and kind of dirty on the inside, and then I remembered what I did.

Some dude named Turner jumped me in an alley, took my $20 and donated it to this site.

Figured I might as well use the subscription.

I used to post over somewhere else about bass gear. The site admin PM'ed me about TalkBass and said I should join up. It was a chick. I can't remember the site anymore....maybe the forum section at the old MXTabs? My memory is terrible nowadays.

I was searchin google for some band practice advice and found a link here. I play drums not bass but the Band Management section rocks so I signed up. A lot of the tips are really coming in handy and this place is much less uptight than my Drum forum, it's a good board but they are really strict about posting any links and censoring what you say.

The first time I came across it I was looking into building a pedalboard, and it came up in the google search.

I believe I was looking up reviews on my Boss RC-2 when I officially joined.

I felt like an uninformed bassist.

Then I discovered OT and it helps me think I'm not that bad of a person, after all.

I frequented the Carvin forum [still do, same username], and many of the bassists on there talked about this place. I joined, found Off Topic, and immediately forgot that the rest of the forum even existed.

I was looking for pron.

Got my first computer around 1998-1999 and was searching all around for bass stuff online. Don't remember exactly when I discovered TB, but I would pop in and lurk around every now and then. Didn't actually register until 2005. Couldn't tell you exactly why.
