I've never been at a show with lime-colored stage lights, spot lights or background lights. I don't think a spotlight is made with limes, and I'm pretty sure if you run 120VAC into a lime, it doesn't glow, just boil.

Limelight.... PSHH. Baloney, I say.

Ok, so what is right then? I agree that wiki isn't a reliable source of facts, but it is good for a quick answer. If you say that it is wrong, then you must know what is right. So?

the center of public attention, interest, observation, or notoriety: He seems fond of the limelight.

That is the definition as we know it today, but not the origin of where the term "limelight" came from and evolved to.

This... CONTRAPTION, as you call it, is most definitely getting attached to my bass headstock.

Gotta keep those stage jumpers at bay.

Best idea of the year, right here.

As we speak I'm arranging for ten of them to be rigged up, $29.99 (plus S&H)and $10 for labor if you want it installed...

Wikipedia is rated as just as reliable of a encyclopedia source as Britanica. Not to mention that most of the stuff on there is cited. That being said, I wouldn't use it as a source for an essay or project, but it is decently accurate and good for general information.

I like the dickipedia link! Very erudite.

I went to a presentation by the founder of Wikipedia at a professional meeting last summer. He discussed the work they put into vetting entries, the oversight they carry out, and the research they've done comparing their error rate with that of online encyclopedias. In fact, the error rate is very comparable between Wikipedia and online encyclopedias. I still don't let my students cite Wikipedia exclusively, but I have a lot more faith in it than I did before that presentation.
