What obligation do current inhabitants of the planet...

...owe to inhabitants of the planet in the distant future?

And, if you think any obligation is owed, how do we determine that standard for what that obligation is?

I think we're supposed to make life easier, not harder for our children.

I am thinking more about those future generations who you cannot even conceptualise as they are so far removed from now. Ie 200 years or more in the future.

Tough question to give a simple answer to. There are lots of things to think about, and the more documentaries I watch the more afraid I get. The ocean is rising, the ozone is depleting, there are too many people, oil is running out, man I need to change my pants now!

I think the best any of us can do is to try to be good people. No matter how bad the world may become as long as people remain civil I think things will be allright.

Turn it into the matrix world where ignorance is the ultimate bliss, and we're all turned into one big giant battery.

That type of crap has been going on since the beginning of mankind. It was around 200 years ago, and given that the world still exists in another 200, it's going to be around then as well. The only way mankind could stop all it's trifling and bickering is if we all turned into mindless vegetables.

Really, the most important thing we need to worry about is getting the Vulcans to detect our first warp signature in the year 2063 so that we can make first contact and begin to explore the reaches of space.

From there it's easy as pie.

I believe in saving the world for our children, but not our children's children, because I don't believe that children should be having sex.

It turns into a ridiculous Russian doll situation.
