What the Pho?

You either know what it is or don't. For those poor souls who don't know it's one of the greatest foods evar. I'm pretty sure it's pronounced "fuh". Say "fur" but don't pronounce the "r". Please don't ask for "foe". It's a vietnamese noodle soup most of the time with beef, but the indgredients pile up the more brave you are. Since I discovered it I've been enjoying a bowl about 2-4 times a week since I discovered it. The beef is VERY thinly sliced and actually raw when they put it into the soup, but the broth is near boiling so it cooks it almost instantly. It's not uncommon to get your bowl and the beef to be slightly pink, just push it down to the bottom and wait a minute because unless you want your tongue cooked as well, don't try to eat it.

The great thing about it is chances are there is a place near you that has it, or more likely multiple places. There are more places than I can choose from in my area but luckily I've found a place that makes a delicious bowl with a crap-ton of noodles for a reasonable price.

So my questions is, how many of you here are phonatics like me? Or how many of you can't stand it? Please vote in the poll and leave your opinions! Better yet if you haven't heard of it go out and try some!!!! Then let us know how you like it.

I enjoy it, i've been to Vietnam twice and the real deal is very good, but even in Vietnam quality varies. It's the Vietnamese breakfast of champions, but for some reason, in the west, its eaten as lunch / dinner.

Where I used to live in London, Shoreditch, there is a huge amount of vietnamese restaurants so I used to get it pretty reguarly. Now I live on the other side of London so havei t less frequently, but had some on the weekend.

I love it, but the little mom and pop place that had the best Pho ever has been gone for maybe ten years now .

Pho is the only Vietnamese food I can't stand, but then I'm not much of a soup person anyway. As far as I'm concerned, Vietnamese food is hands-down the best Asian food there is, with Thai running a close second. Any culture that took the best of French and Chinese cooking, and mashed them together....mmmm....I miss the food available in the Bay Area.

But I still hate Pho.

Pho is okay, but Bahn Mi (tasty sandwiches consisting of baguette, the meat of your choice, raw japlapenos, and pickled carrots/raddish) is where it's at! Yum yum!

It is good. I have only had it once, but it was quite good. I will still take pad thai or sushi over it any day.

Absolutely love it!

I think I could eat it everyday if I could afford to. I need to learn how to make it myself!

I hate pho. I love ethnic foods, particularly Asian cuisine (to include most other Vietnamese offerings), but I just cannot stand pho.

BTW, two of my colleagues are Vietnamese, and they pronounce it "phu", as in the word "fun" without the 'n'.

San Jose (nearby) has the largest Vietnamese population in the US.
Pho shops are very common, and good pho abounds.
Life is good...

There's been a rapid increase in the number of pho restaurants around here.

Same here. There's actually one that is on like a McDonalds level. Plates and bowls have their name on them, it's huge, always packed, but at the same time still has some tradition. Gotta love the Vietnamese though, super kind people.

I live very close to the San Gabriel valley here in Los Angeles and that means I am lucky enough to live near several quality Pho places. I love it! And yes, the Bahn Mi sandwiches are great as well.

Ton of Pho joints around here. I usually opt for the rice vermicelli bowls instead of the broth based dishes, but definitely good stuff.

My band (minus the frontman) loves the stuff. We eat it frequently.

Had it a few times local, liked it.

Was very impressed with the one time I went to a 'nice' Viet restaurant in the 'City'. seven or eight seperate dishes on the table and each had distictly different sauce to go with it. Nice.

Love, I mean, love my Thai food though. Had curry for luch today.
