What the radio doesn't play.

Here in Detroit, the only half decent Rock radio station is 101.1 the WRIF.

No correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Queens of the Stone Age is rock. However, the radio will not play any QOTSA. It makes me very upset, to say the least. You would think with all the crappy stuff they play, they could play something decent that people in the area don't normally hear.

My question to you is...

What do your local radio stations not play that you think they should?

I live in Texas. All we get is really bad rock, really bad country (oxymoron) and really bad rap (again, oxymoron). So yeah, I don't listen to the radio.

101.9 RXP is saving radio (yeah they market it that way...but its true!)

Give a listen online...They play some crap (are we human or are we dancers ) but they also play awesome stuff from the 60's to yesterday.

I even heard a Zappa song the other day!

Well we had a semi-decent station here, Indie 103.1 recently change over to a top 40 station. we lost the best Talk Radio FM ever, 97.1 like a week or two ago, to change over to a top 40 station. We have KROQ 106.7 that is pretty much a top 40 rock station, and they do play some QOTSA, but radio sucks pretty big for the most part.

for "rock and roll" the best thing going was CKLW - The big 8 on your AM dial.

It just sucks because we listen to the radio all day at work. I know all the words to "Bad Girlfriend" by that band that sounds like all the other bands they play. *tear*

Funny....here in NY 101.1 WCBS is an oldies station.

I listen to that a lot and will CONTINUE to listen to that over any of the so-called "rock" stations. They all suck.

... You listen to the radio? I listen to this thing called an iPod. It has tons of songs of music that I want to listen to on it. I put on random shuffle, and it's like a radio station but without annoying commercials or egotistical jackass disc jockeys.

I listen to talk radio. In terms of music, I haven't conciously listened to commercial radio for a few years now. It's good to have an MP3 player.

The only thing I listen to on the radio is Bob And Tom. Otherwise I can get 3 classic rock stations, 3 pop stations, 4 or 5 country stations and one "new rock" station that only seems to play Nickelback, Hinder, and bands like them. The new rock station sometimes plays Marilyn Manson or Nine Inch Nails, but otherwise it has a REALLY crappy play list. There used to have a radio station that played metal exclusively (everything from thrash to death metal), and it's listening area was basically the city it was in and MAYBE a 10-15mile radius. Luckily I was living in that city when it was still in operation, but unfortunately they weren't getting enough funding.

Here in the Greater Boston area the only station I listen to is 100.7 WZLX. They're a classic rock station which plays a great variety of music from my younger days, which means no Queens Of The Stone Age, just Queen! I believe they're privately owned, since some of the other Classic rock stations in my area have that certain "corporate" sound - you know, repeat "Margaritaville" ad nauseum. ZLX even plays semi-obscure Rush tunes like By-Tor And The Snow Dog and The Big Money!

radio rarely plays anything good, they need to take chances more but with the economy the way it is they will continue to play it safe which means more boring same old same old

If you choose to listen to radio for music I would suggest college stations. We have two good ones in my area. WSOU( Seton Hall) and the Rutgers Station. But Krock can die for all I care. They are the worst representation of rock radio. And NJ's 105.5 its the all Rush Zeppelin station. The problem is if radio was really about the listeners you would think they would want to be cutting edge. I can't stand the radio. It makes me angry when I think about having no options. Even the NY's jazz station is filled with crap. They are their own worst enemies. Plus the FCC is ruining our lives everyday. If they would allow DJ's to program their own time slots I think more people would come back to the radio. But radio is not about the thousands of listeners its about the few sponsors. GOD!!! Radio drives me nuts. If do have to listen to the radio out on NPR.

97.4 is good for classic rock and 97.9 is good for rap. I have an iPod hookup in my car, so I just use that most of the time.
