A few months back I quit drinking juice completely because I'm trying (albiet lazily) to lose some weight and it was my main source of sugar and sodium. Now I drink mostly water, a cup of milk here and there and an occasional bit of alcohol. My problem was that I can stand the taste of tap water or frig water. Depending on the tap it could taste like dirt or iron and I couldn't get used to it so we'd have to keep cases of bottle water around for me to drink which isn't exactly cheap or environmentally friendly. I'm not really a green person but I won't fight a better way when I've found one and I have. This:
I never really considering picking one up before but one of my friends let me try it out and I got one the next day, lol. The difference in taste, at least to me is massive and I can happily drink water without spending extra cash on bottled water now . Just thought I'd let you guys know.

You could also splurge on this:
I'm also with you on the frig water, I hate it. |

Norman, OK has the highest mg/L concentration of arsenic in tap water in the United States, which is to say it's right at the legal limit. At freshman orientation you are not advised but rather flat out told that you need to buy a filter pitcher like the one Kwesi has. I still have mine and haven't turned back. The initial cost is about $30 for the pitcher and each filter is $10, but you have to replace the filters every other month and compared to bottled water it's a much cheaper and greener solution. |

| | | | I use a Brita purifier jug thing. Haven't replaced the filter in the year I've had it, though... probably should get around to that.

Short version = PUR pitchers are great for when you have bad-tasting tap water. For people with really nasty chemical or bacterial problems in their water, the PUR won't cut it. Most people in civilized places don't have that bad of a problem though. |

She kept a brita water filter in the fridge and the only rule was to fill the water up when I was done. Best tasting, completely cool, and always available.
My new roommates are really starting to suck. |

| | | | I use refillable jugs. It's a quarter a gallon, there's no trash, and it tastes better than water from filter pitchers (in my experience, with Texas water).

The only way to tell is if it is stated on the box, with an NSF seal on it. It will read "Removes arsenic according to NSF 42 or 53".
Also, your fridge water should taste pretty good - it is an activated carbon filter, so any taste & odor & maybe even VOCs (volatile organic chemical) should be removed. Change the filter!!! Filters are only rated for a nominal service life. You might be able to get an extra bit of time, but replace them regularly! |

Hospital bills when older are much more expensive than the money one might spend on a water filter or even buying organic produce (if you don't grow your own).
