What "TSR" software to use to keep mobile internet active?

Hi.

Dear mobile internet geeks, I humbly seek Your wisdom.

First of all, I don't have the skills or knowledge or even desire to necessarily completely fix the problem I'm having, but rather just a better band-aid solution than I'm using now.

The setup:

An old Acer Travel Mate 2303 lap-top.
Win XP Pro (SP2?)
Mozzilla Firefox
Huawei USB Mobile Broadband E1762
Huawei Mobile Partner software

ATM, I'm using e-Mule to keep the connection up and running.

Ignorant huh?
But with that band-aid solution, the connection stays open and everything is good and dandy for days, if not weeks.
Without it, the inactivity caused by typing a response on TB for example, may cause the connection to become unresponsive, about 50% of the time.
Which obviously means shutting down the Mobile Partner, and resetting the broadband stick.
Which, quite obviously, sucks.

So what I'm asking is to someone point me into direction of a program (or a site to open) that would force the connection to stay active by transferring a small amount of data into either direction, or into both.

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with this problem, and there's an answer somewhere in the vast internet wilderness, but my computer geek skills are not what they used to be, so google didn't help as I couldn't specify the excact problem I'm having well enough.

Regards
Sam

If you use Opera, you can set any webpage to auto-refresh at an interval you want. It has defaults as low as 5 seconds, but you can set a custom one to refresh every second if you want.
I think there's an addon for Firefox that does it as well, but it's been awhile since I looked for it or even used Firefox.
Chrome/Iron doesn't seem to have this yet that I can see.
I.E. 9 has an "accelerator" that does the same thing as Opera.

You could check with your ISP to see if there are adjustable settings in your account or in the software they provide.

Hi.

Thanks guys, I'll check those suggestions.

I strongly doubt that my ISP is willing to give me such information even if there was any though.
The way I've have been taught the mobile networks to function, is to rely on the minimal duty-cycle of an individual user, and if possible, to shave some activity off from eventhat. I'm pretty certain that may be the case here.

Or it's just the part of the campaign to push optic cable to the households in this remote area. For mere 2600€ I could get a connection (to the junction box on our outside wall) that costs a minimum of 39€/month and provides roughly the same speed I'm promised now.

I do know it's just a small thing, but really annoying.

Regards
Sam
