It hurt even more than when I ruptured the same disc. It wasn't too fun before the first surgery either; can't stand, can't sit, can't lay down, can't do anything to relieve the pain.
Sciatic nerve pain sucks too. My leg went numb for a couple weeks, but that pins and needles numb. The bad kind. Take care of your back. There aren't any great solutions to a messed up back. |

Luckily only a few attacks in sequence and then pauses for several years. Seems to be getting better with age for me; I haven't had a serious attack since 2009, I think.
For me Imigran (Sumatriptan) auto-injectors is the ultimate cure. When a full attack sets in I take a shot and the pain is gone in a few minutes. Wish I'd known about that when I was younger.

Actually they may be re-running it . http://channel.nationalgeographic.co...room-medicine/

At one point my right leg was hurting so bad that I couldn't get out of bed! I had to pop a ton of Motrin just to be able to function. I finally went to a chiropractor, and after a series of treatments to my lower spine the pain went away, and it hasn't come back since.

My wife has had a botched cesaerean, a natural birth and kidney stones, she says the kidney stone pain was worst.
Posters on other forums seems to agree that the worst pain of all is stepping barefoot onto a lego brick. |

I didn't know that pain could be so bad. On the proverbial "scale of 1 to 10," it peaked at 14. It's amazing how something so small can hurt so much. But I'm sure most people have had tiny splinters that have caused comparatively ridiculous amounts of pain; so when you think about it, it's not really always the size that matters so much as how the particular nerve endings are being stimulated.
Supposedly about the worst pain ever is from the symptoms caused by the sting of a Carukia barnesi, a really tiny (like pinky-nail sized) jellyfish. Just one of the reasons why I do not deliberately immerse myself in natural bodies of water.

Of course, I haven't experienced that, but it doesn't sound funny to me. |

I broke three metatarsal bones of my left foot on January 1st, 2002 and, while putting my foot on the floor resulted in unbearable pain, it was practically nothing but the swelling as long as I kept it raised. |

Brutal, brutal pain. Needed the meds very badly.

I woke up during the surgery, as they were arranging the skin flap and sewing up the inside of my nose. During the procedure, they inserted packing which had to be ripped out the next day, bringing scabs and skin with it. Definitely one of those two, for me.

Cracking two discs in my back made it pretty awful doing anything for a couple months, but that one was easily trumped by a knee dislocation skiing , my right foot was pointing straight backwards and I had to drag myself a couple hundred yards out of waist deep powder in the woods, passed out as soon as I got out of the glades to the cat track. A Serious tooth infection and migraines are getting up there, too, both destroy any ability to be functional, but not as horror movieish as looking at a body part not where it is supposed to be at all. Any time I ever feel like I'm complaining about injuries too much I just read through Travis Pastrana's injury list, that guy is a super hero to still be alive and going. Muscle injuries hurt a whole lot more than a non separated fracture.

| | | | Dislocated kneecap. Started spinning around after lifting up my girlfriend and I heard a loud pop. The next thing I remember is laying on the floor screaming while my girlfriend and buddy just looked at me wondering if I was in serious pain or not. I actually had to tell my buddy to call 911! Paramedics didn't give me any pain meds before relocating it, they just said to push my leg out while they pulled on it from my ankle. That part hurt much more than having pop out. Another kid in the room actually up and passed out while that was going on.
That definitely hurt MUCH more than breaking my arm in 2 places at the same time.

I can't compete, but years ago I broke my ring finger; it was twisted out of position. A buddy of mine offered to save me the cost of going to an orthopedist and set it for me himself. Right.
No way, Jose, I'm going to a real Doctor who will do the job with some finesse. Went to my appointment, Doc says "let me have a look at that..." SNAP!
Good thing he didn't warn me.

| | | | I don't think I've had anything that can compete with some of the worst here! But the worst I've felt were
Splenectomy (open, not laparoscopic) - obviously I was out for the surgery but the weeks/months afterwards were hell
Wisdom tooth socket infection, landed me in hospital for a week
Infection up my nostril following a cauterisation
Ear infections and a perforated ear drum
The time I put my back out
And having a 2 feet tall stone ornament dropped on my big toe - the nail popped right off.
