Howdy folks, was wondering what you would do in this particular situation.
At a previous job of mine a coworker gave me a POS Teisco bass to repair because it needed a new nut. I said I'd do it at cost, and he told me to take my time since he hasn't played bass in about 4 years.
However, upon seeing the bass, it had two large cracks on the sides of the the body (its a hollow body) and it needed a neck reset as well. Well I already reset the neck, but I never had time to finish repairing the cracks. I had also told this guy to order the nut, but he never did. Since I don't work there, and this particular place is very far from my current place of residence (about an hour commute each way) I haven't seen or heard from him.
I still talk to some people there and someone told me he was looking for me and this bass. Yet he never called me and I never got his number until recently (and he never picked up) So I've . been trying to get into contact with him through people, who I still talk to, that still work there. Unfortunately they're unreliable, but after about 2 weeks of pestering my friends they finally gave him my message that I'd give it to this mutual guy I know named Marty.
So now he called Marty, got my house number, and keeps calling me all hours of the day to ask where is bass is.
What would you do?

He just trusts Marty not to steal his bass (I guess I'm not trustworthy, even though I've been trying to get into contact with him for 2 months now ) but there isn't a way I'd get paid for anything.
Yay me.

Mater of fact. Kick yourself right now for not exchanging phone number when taking possession of his bass. |

I used to have his cell number on my old cellphone, but it broke before I got fired and I never finished putting everyone's numbers back into it.
I've also called the job, looking for him, but he's always "on lunch" or not working that day.

I think what you should do is take pictures of Ricardo's bass in provocative poses with a llama. Then, you need to get word to Ricardo that you have pictures of the bass gettin' kinky with said llama. Threaten him by saying that you will post pictures on both TalkBass and Craigslist with factual information about who the bass belongs to.
No one wants to be the guy that owns a kinky Tiesco. Maybe you can get him to just leave you alone. If not, just send it to me here in Illinois and I'll hide it for you. You can keep the llama. |

I just wanna tell this guy to go F- himself and that he has till Saturday to pick it up. And then its going into the trash bin.
But I can't because I'm such a nice person and all that.

Am I missing something? I thought I did a good job of reading the thread. It looks black and white to me, unless there is some kind of teenage/early-20's voodoo going on here?

A decent nut for a POS bass is any trash piece of plastic + 10 min of work with a hack-saw, sand paper and files.
Why don't You just tell him to come to pick up the bass? You won't probably see any money as you didn't fix the original problem and fixed something he didn't requested you to do. If the cracks are something that a few drops of white glue and a few clamps can't fix, there was a little or no point in setting the neck first IMHO.
What ever You do, you'll probably be "the no good a-hole who had his precious vintage bass for x-amount of time and did nothing" in his eyes no matter how you explain it. That's just the way it goes, believe me I DO KNOW .
