Eureka's IMO the best thing on sci-fi, unless you count Lost (which they just recently started airing on Monday nights). good acting, good plot, no overuse of (bad) special effects, and some good eye candy.

That's sci-fi right?

I'm pretty sure that Buffy The Vampire Slayer won't count, but it is my favourite TV series of any kind ever.

I actually really liked the remake series of Battlestar Galactica. It had its weak moments, but even those weak moments were still better than anything out of the Star Trek spin-off franchise. |

Currently? The reimagined BSG is great, as is the updated Doctor Who.
Blake's 7 is sadly overlooked by many sci-fi fans - shows such as Babylon 5 and Firefly were heavily inspired by it. Before B7, sci-fi was very much about a utopian future and likable, heroic characters (eg, Star Trek: TOS). B7 brought in the ideas of a dystopian future, totalitarian governments and the main characters being criminals and morally ambiguous at best.
Sure, B7 looked mostly awful (apart from the masterpiece of design that was the Liberator), what with its 70s/80s BBC budget, but the characters were great and the writing was fantastic. |

I've never really liked Stargate SG-1 for some reason. I've heard good things about Stargate Atlantis though, so I may give it a chance. |
