what was your first drink at the bar?

I'm turning 21 on thursday, my brother's going to bring me to a bar to buy my first drink.

My question is: what should it be? I'd like a hard alcohol mixer, something that I can savor and remember.you only get one first drink at a bar.

... if you don't count the days I went to the bar with a fakie . but still, it's a momentous occasion!

I believe my first drink on my 21st was a Whiskey Sour. Not a terrible choice. But these days I'd take a scotch neat or a rusty nail instead.

my first actual one was a rum and coke, three years ago.

I'll probably just go with that.

I was working in a restaurant on the night I turned 21 and all the waitresses took turns buying me shots of Tequila in the bar after the restaurant closed for the night. They were trying to get me drunk but because I'd already spent many nights over the previous months in the bar building up a tolerance they all got drunk first.

In order to not be banned from TB I shall decline to go into detail about the rest of the evening and the next morning.

Scotch and Soda, The American Bar, Bankok, Thailand....ditched the soda and upgraded the scotch to Johnny Walker Black after the first one.

I believe for me it was a straight shot of coconut-flavored rum. I was in a real Hawaiian-shirts phase.

My first drink at a bar was a Young's Double Chocolate Stout, one of the 30 or so beers that bar had on tap (their name was 99 bottles). Damn that was good.

Stella Artois... god I love the fact that 18 is the legal drinking age in Australia, 21 is just too long to wait.

Worthington's draught. Can't remember which type exactly, but it was only brewed for Teesside IIRC...

I believe my first drink at the bar was an Apricot Sour. (Yeah, I know, permanent revokation of my Man Card... although if it makes a difference, I was 16 at the time. By the time I reached the legal drinking age I'd had so many different illegal drinks that it was a complete non-event & I don't remember what it was. Probably beer.)

However, as to the OP's query "What should it be?" I think there's only one answer:

Absynthe.

Southern Comfort Straight. Half gallon beer chaiser.

Having never drank before lets just say I spent the evening hurling everything I'd eaten in my 21st year of life. And I think I tasted shoelaces in there somewhere.

God Bless, Ray
