I grew up with big dogs (lab and samoyed), but I think a mid-sized model would be a better fit for me at this point of my life. I'm hoping to be out of my condo and into a house by the end of the year. A dog will soon follow. |

I couldn't see anything & I reached down to pull him away the sucker bit me in the left hand. 8 shots from my .45 Colt Combat Commander & 3 rounds of .243 Winchester later, only shreds of the snake left. I was pissed because it would not let go of my hand & I had to drop the rifle to pry it off with a knife. The beagle was half way to the next county. They will eat themselves to death if you let them. (Lock up the food.) Found one inside a cabinet & inside a 50 lb bag of dog food just munching away. They have great personalities and are very sweet. |

My brother had a beagle and had problems. Based on this limited data, I would only suggest to get some general advice on getting a healthy dog. Perhaps a vet might chat with you before you spring. |

Mine were alert...could sense something coming down the driveway before I did. If they looked towards the sliding glass window abruptly...sure enough "something" would be there...or just outside. Not to big, not to small of a dog... They will dig and will run on the scent of a rabbit...just watch'em and train'em right. Just like a kid they don't act right if you let them. |

Both have told me that they are a very hard breed to train. Make sure you have the time and energy to train it properly - it's a lot of work! (Cats are way easier. ) |

As has been said, they have quite a voice to them; you don't want to leave them alone for any length of time. Also, as has already been said, they can be difficult to train, but that's mainly because they're so easily distracted. You just need to be patient and always show him/her who's boss. Hmm. Kind of like being a parent, eh?
Fun dogs, but IMO, they're not much of the city type. Ours would run the wood all day long... literally. Practically have to drag him in the house. Again, kind of like a parent/kid relationship.

And you know what happens when dogs get bored, they dig holes, rip stuff to shreds, create all sorts of mischief.
I'm not sure if its true or not but it may be something to think about.
Anyway, I love beagles, I'd love to own one (or two!) in my life also.
