The whatever club... why bother?

OK, let me start by saying that I am ready to receive the odd bit of toungue in cheek abuse...

What is the deal with all these clubs? I mean I do like the fact that I can start a Rickenbacker thread and chat with other Ricky users (or people wanting to know about them etc) but why does every thread related to a certain bit of equipment or a great band/player need to be followed up with a member number?

I mean really, what is the point. There is no great benefit in saying I am #1 in the 'Why Bother With Clubs' thread. And if there was a 500th member, what difference would it make, that person wouldn't like clubs just the same as me!

Is it an ego thing? A low number in a club (with the exception of the initiator) probably implies someone is spending too much time on here and should be practicing (especially if they are 'low' numbers in multiple clubs).

I'm all for including notes at the bottom stating your favourite gear (yay for my 1979 Ricky 4001), or what you are into (music/equipment you like, styles you play) but who really cares if you were the first or the nien-hundred and twenty-first to say so?

And now for some irony just to mess with peoples heads...

"Why bother with clubs club - Instigator"

Let me now don my fire retardant clothes.

When you join a club you get invited to more parties. The kind of club you join will dictate the quality of the gathering. Oddly, the Spalted Maple Top Club meets at Chuck E. Cheese and the only REAL benefit is the extra tokens.

I voted for the last one because of "so I can avoid playing my bass".

At this point, I think there have actually been more "what's the deal with clubs?" threads than there are clubs.

I despise clubs and join whenever I qualify. I believe I belong to upwards of 20- I've lost track.
