Whats the deal with the instrument pricing (case: Sandberg basses)

Sandberg Electra TT4 Passive/Active:

- 22 frets
- Basswood body
- Maple neck
- Rosewood fretboard
- 34" scale
- 2x sandberg single coil, Alnico5 magnets
- Sandberg 2-band EQ, Tandem Poti for treble and bass
- Assembled in Germany
= 679 €

Sandberg TT4 Passive:

- 22 frets
- Ash body
- Maple neck
- Rosewood fretboard
- 34" scale
- 2x sandberg single coil, Alnico5 magnets
- 2x volume control, 1x tone control
- Assembled in Germany (most likely)
= 1049 €

All in all the basses are more or less close relatives. The first obvious difference comes from the Preamp section as the Electra TT4 has passive/active - in contrast to TT4 passive bass. Secondly there is the difference on wood material what is used for the body (TT4 Passive: Ash, TT4 Electra: Basswood). As I have understand basswood is know for it's lower cost, but when talking about which is "better", it's mostly matter of taste since both have their unique take on the sound. Granted that my overall knowleadge is far from good when talking about instruments in general, so it's more than plausable that I'm completely clueless and the 400€ in pricising is reasonable.

So the question is, what are the reasons that the pricing is so drasticly different with these two basses? Answers would be well appriciated.

The Electra models are assembled in Germany with parts from Korea. The standard models are all made in Germany. It's like the price difference between MIA and MIM and CIJ Fenders.
