The WHATS FOR DINNER Thread?

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats for dinner tonight?

I spent the last half hour making stuffed manicotti ... it's in the oven and I can't wait for 6:10.

Pain in the arse to make, but certainly smells worth it.

What are you having or making for dinner?

Diet dinner, which means a small piece of steak, steam cooked green beans and some pickled beetroot. Not so nice....

...so yesterday I saw an episode of good eats on the food network where the nerdy guy made gumbo and maaaaaan... I really wanna make some gumbo tonight. But it takes a few hours, and I don't have all the ingredients, so I'd have to take probably an hour and go to the store, so it probably wouldn't be ready until 11 pm or midnight... oh well...

More late lunch than dinner (dieting and detoxing - yuk) but a lean rump steak, a couple of pork sausages (all pork from a great gourmet butcher), some ham chunks and an egg all cooked in my special garlic and chili olive oil. Add some raw peppers and onion just to guarantee I won't get kissed tonight.

5 y.o. son and I went to "Tomato Street" (fine italian joint, just up the street). We shared:

Buttery garlic bread, dipped in marinara
salad
blackened chicken fettuccini

Son wanted hot chocolate to drink, dad had a cosmopolitan.

I made tagliatelle with a simple sausage sauce. I prefer tagliatelle (must include eggs!) over normal pasta, it's much tastier. The sauce was ok, but nothing fancy.

I also had a couple of bananas that almost had gone bad, so I deep fried them after covering them with this paste/dough or whatever it's called:

½ dl beer
1 dl water
2 dl wheat flour (mix vigorously into the liquids)
a hint of salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger

Those were great, especially when served with vanilla ice cream and liquid honey. Yum! I should make these more often.
