.... you've been back playing after major surgery???

put it simply i had surgery Tuesday 7th July and have to play a gig tonight Thursday 9th July..
The surgery itself was on my knee (ACL reconstruction as well as removal of torn cartilage...)
and was only released from hospital yesterday!!

and the medication i'm on.. well lets say tonight is going to be very interesting..

just wondering do any of the rest of ye have similar instances of being let out of hospital to play a gig???

dude are you going to be sitting down for this gig? are you in a post op knee immobilizer or at least a range of motion brace? I hope you don'y plan on loading or unloading anything.

I had major surgery on both of my feet when I was around 15. A week and a half later someone put me up on stage in my wheelchair. That was at church, so not such a big deal. But that weekend I played a gig with my band in the wheelchair. I was a bit loopy from the pain meds.

A couple of weeks later I was on crutches. That was actually kind of cool, because my band mates had to set myself up. I just chilled and watched them. But then I got tired of people stealing my crutches and waving them in the air saying, "God bless us, every one" Tiny Tim style.

I just had abdominal surgery Tuesday and I'm barely out of the crawling stage. If you can gig already, more power to you!

after apendix I was playing 3 days later, hurnia related to apendix about 5 days. Amazingly high tolerance for pain priceless. Although sneezing while driving 2 days after the hernia surgery hurt like a mother *****, Its up their with getting a 2 inch pin ripped out of my toes after a foot surgery.

I had a 6" steel plate installed in my right leg one afternoon and the next day I sat in the neighborhood bar strumming my bass alongside the local acoustic guitar minstrel, singing gay songs about Tylenol with Codeine.

He asked "Play" not "Gig".

thakfully i was sat down for the gig..
have another one tonight.. this will be fun.. very little room for a 5 piece band and as one of the members plays piano.. really cramped for space...

wearing leg brace the whole time.. and rest of band were great for setting verything up, but the amount of slagging was priceless...

taking meds an hour before gig probably wasnt the best idea though.. no pain but rather loopy. maybe tonight i'll take them a few hours before the gig.. wont be so...

Strange...

I read that as 'crawling out of the stage'. That put quite a strange image in my head.

24 hrs post op, from shoulder surgery. The shoulder the bass hangs on, it was not fun. But I got through it. My band mates moved my rig for me.

No surgery... but injuries:

Broke my right hand, the metacarpal, the first night of a 7 week tour. Played the next 22 shows in pain. Poped a few tylenol, taped my pinkey to my ring finger, and used my shoulder as much as possible to pick up and down to keep my hand/wrist as still as possible.

It sucked... but that's obligation for ya.
